[ Meiling is in her yard at 340 Brady Lane, still toiling with the preparations for flower planting to finally begin, when she notices the rather...

Well, she's not one to judge anyone as strange, but the weapons do make her pause as she leans against the fence. ] Hi! What can I do for you?

[Nods

walks over

picks up the handle

flips it over to face her, but horizontally

Yep! [ She reaches out to turn it the right way in the girl's grip. ] You have to hold the receiver like this, or you won't be able to hear anything, and the person on the other end can't hear you, either.

[Wire end down, got it. She'll press the receiver against her ear, then.

...]

It's a flat tone.

[Taking another stare at what the phone wire is connected to.]

Do you operate it with this? [Pointing with her free hand at the dial. It sure looked peculiar...]

--oh yeah. [ Derp. Meiling shows her how that part works, next. ] --just be careful not to pinch your finger or dial too hard. [ Both things she's done before. ]

[Nod. A sword isn't like an axe; it takes a high SKILL rating to crit it takes more refinement to wield it properly, so she makes note easily.

She takes the receiver a few inches away from her face; it's the drone operator talking.]

Does it stop once you put this back down?

Ah, yes! [ Meiling takes it, murmuring an apology to the operator. ] No, we don't need anyone.... yes, I'm sure!... okay, I'm sorry.... yes, I know your time has to be important... I said I'm sorry! Just-- [ She hangs up rather swiftly, and then sighs. ]

[She stares.]

Putting that down cuts the communication. That would mean that you don't need anything more from the operator. Why didn't you do that right away?

Well... because that's rude! You can't just hang up on someone when they picked up, especially if it's their job.

The drones are like living zombies, aren't they?

Something like that? It's really strange, and I don't understand it, even though I think some of the others have some clues about it when the dairy incident happened. [ Meiling is not the brains of the operation by any stretch of the imagination. ]

They're here to fill empty spaces. If that's the entirety of their function, manners don't matter.

[ Frowning. ] ...some of them were people once, too.

Zombies and skeletons were people too. They died, and their remains are being manipulated. They're not people anymore.

[ Unwittingly, she clenches her fingers into the folds of her skirt, letting the tension wind its way through those muscles instead of the ones in her face.

Not again. ] ... I think there's a little more grey area here when it comes to people who used to be human.

[A short silence.]

They look human, so you can't dissociate the image.
