After leaving the Old Faithful Basin, we drove north to visit another couple of geyser basins. I did not have high hopes for seeing anything interesting there after all the incredible sights of the Old Faithful Basin, but I was up for surprise once again. Gheez, when will I ever learn?..

Yellowstone National Park was our primary destination for our summer vacation. Grand Teton National Park, Glacier National Park - all of those were added onto the trip to the Yellowstone National Park. The out-of-this-world colors of the ponds, the erupting geysers - I wanted to see all of those with my own eyes!

We were sorry to waste an entire day on transit during our trip from Seattle to the Yellowstone National Park, so we included a visit to a park on our way to the park :) The lucky winner of our attention ended up being Craters of the Moon National Monument ( Read more... )

The objective for me for this weekend was to see the wonder of our state - golden larches. Those are conifers that turn yellow and lose their needles in fall only to reacquire them in the spring time! I specifically browsed the trails for the word "larches" and came up with Ingalls Lake trail ( Read more... )

Our third objective when visiting the Glacier National Park was to sample different areas of it: Grinnell Lake and Glacier were in the north-eastern part of the park called St Mary, and Highline trail was smack in the middle of the park. Fall is most definitely my least favorite season. It's the season with the constant whisper: "It's gonna get worse from here. Soon you're again gonna be cold all the time!" Olympic National Park is our favorite place to take our guests to as here, within a single park, one can show the majority of what is so beautiful about our state. After hiking the Harry's Ridge near Mt St Helen's back in June, we came back in September to explore the park around the mountain in a more touristy mode. On the way to the Johnston Observatory there are actually a number of pull-overs and hikes, that also tell the story of the mountain.
