I am astonished to see that the Kerry camp is claiming a straight sweep of the debates. I agree that he won the first one, but the second, in my opinion, was a tie, and I think that the polls back this up. In an ABC poll 47% think Kerry won, 44% think Bush won, and there was a 4.5% margin of error. That's what is called a statistical dead-heat. I ( Read more... )

I would definately agree with this analysis of the three debates. I believe that Bush did a better job during the third debate than both the first and second. He seemed to be relaxed and excited about the issues that he was discussing. He came across very real and genuin, especially toward the end with the question about his wife. All of this probably worked more in his favor, in my opinion, than if he had done this well in the first two debates simply because people were expecting Kerry to flat outdo him. You could compare this to people's opinions of how Rose Perrot did in his first debate- people were not expecting him to fair well at all and then he did! Of course Kerry's group would believe that he was the winner of all three- it shows confidence. It would be sad if they admittedly lost any of the debates. Obviously you can't go by their views ( ... )

It was not out of line for Kerry to mention Mary Cheney. It fit with the question asked, which was "Do you believe homosexuality is a choice?". Kerry said that if you ask Mary Cheney, who is a lesbian, she'll tell you she is who she was born to be. Those who are outraged by this should also take a look at Alan Keyes comments in which he specific demeaned her on purpose calling her a "selfish hedonist ( ... )

nospinchris's reply to jamesfus's post about the debate discredits your first counter very well -- I'll let what he said stand.

Kerry's statement about "marrying up" was about as effective as your second counter, that is: not at all. Was your second point supposed to make sense? It didn't. Would you like to provide some kind of support for any of your conjectures? I don't see how Kerry trying to make a joke about marrying for money (judging by the audience's reaction), it didn't go over well. About the President "marrying up" to Laura Bush and her being more popular, you made no sense whatsoever. I feel like I've read the first and last sentences of a paragraph, but not the middle.
