Wow, this is an auspicious day. My child's birthday will be shared with the coming out of someone so interesting. :)

That reminds me (oop, never mind that there is a connection with my thought process here), did I ever send you and zoomie the photos I took of you in drag? Must do that now.

I am very interested to hear more about TGOYD, I love that kind of small universe/intuition/coincidence/vision stuff. I want to hear what happens now!!

BTW, thank you again for posting the other day. Hope you got my response.

Um, interesting train of thought... thanks for the photos. Though in my defense, it was makeup I was wearing, I wasn't actually in drag!

Keep us posted on the baby developments! hope all goes well on the big day (by the time you read this, you'll officially be a mommy, I think...)

Looking back, it's amazing how much ground the original Star Trek broke at the time. Even if the principals were white guys (though one was a green-tinged off-white), Sulu and Uhura had continuing supporting roles, as did Chekhov--in some ways equally amazing that he was a proud Russian during the height of the Cold War (and cute as six kittens). Pre-multicultural multiculturalism. I don't think they were quite ready for a gay Asian spaceman...though that sounds like an excellent anime character.

I have some vague memory of an episode where Sulu was waving a samurai sword about...nevermind.

The part that concerns me here...you name your computers? Hmm.

Yes, I looked around on some trek message boards last night to see if this news was getting any reaction. All the messages I saw were supportive... and one said something like "oh well, I bet this is the closest we'll ever get to having a gay main character." Interesting - there was a significant push from some fans to get a gay character on the Next Generation, then on the future shows, though it never happened. There is a great Next Gen episode called "The Outcast" where androgyny is a metaphor for homosexuality, or more generally, difference/other-ness. There is a planet of androgynous aliens, and the ones who feel they are male or female are ostracized and punished ( ... )

Those tapes have been in my box at the theater forever! Was I supposed to listen to them???

Weird.

Mr. Takei saying "Hot Wet Bitches" still will not fail to make me laugh.
