Yesterday was Messy Church day. Our theme was a harvest one of'Giving thanks for God's creation'. I used a book called God's Very Colourful Creation for the story and we took our ideas from that. You can see what the book is like - this is one of the pages..

Sounds like a fun day indeed! That book is really something; and so are the decorated cupcakes.

Making lanterns isn't an easy task indeed, even if one has kits with pre-cut parts. I once tried to make some from the scratch and the results were... well, questionable at best. German kids have processions with lanterns on St. Martin's Day, and since our school had special German minority classes, this was always part of the pre-feast crafting.

The book is lovely - it talks about the sky being azure and cobalt, periwinkle and powder blue, baby blue and midnight blue... and aren't those cupcakes great!

I looked back and realised that when Jackie did the lanterns she had simplified them by putting a single sheet of cellophane behind each cut out picture rather than using separate colours for the different bits - but even then it was complicated!

I so love the expressions on the cup cakes! Your owls gave me ideas for the family Halloween party- only that I will go for a spicy variety!

Those cupcakes are really such fun!

Spicy would be lovely - ginger and/or cinnamon perhaps. One thing I realised is that Oreos are not as thick as they used to be. When I did the owls in the past I simply twisted the cookie and it easily came apart into the 2 separate biscuits - but now they are a lot more fragile and break very easily. Even when the children had the half Oreo on the table flat and gently pressed the coloured sweet into it.

Since our grandchildren- indeed all of them- love to split oreos apart, eat the cream and then the cake, I will buy the oreos double cream only. They tolerate the splitting better than the ordinary ones! But you have to wait for special offers, or you wiill bleed out financially!

I tried them after the first ones I tried at home - and yes they were a bit better - but the actual biscuit bit is definitely thinner than it used to be. But it sounds as if you have some expert splitters there!

Those cupcakes are so cute! I couldn't help smiling. I hope they tasted as good as they looked.

They did! Gail and Ben make a mean cupcake! At TT they make us around 100 - mainly with a Rolo in the middle and chocolate buttercream on top, or with lemon curd in the middle and lemon buttercream :)

What a marvelous time for the kids. Learning to appreciate even small, everyday things can't start too early in a person's life.

They all seemed to enjoy themselves - and nothing we do is big or expensive, just a chance for them to get creative with paint, glue, and food :)
