So up until a few weeks ago I was certain I'd been to
South Carolina. As I've mentioned a few times (
Delaware,
Georgia,
Maryland) in 1989 my family went on an epic road trip that included a stop in North Carolina at my aunt's beach house. I was convinced that we'd taken a short driving trip that happened to go across the border into South Carolina, which would be good for at least partial credit. One slight hitch: my mother didn't remember this at all.
Ok, well it was very brief even in my memory, perhaps I forgot. But then while I was writing this I pulled up Wrightsville Beach, NC, location of my aunt's beach house. A quick look at the map indicated that any drive to South Carolina would have been a minimum of an hour, one way. It seems incredibly unlikely that we would have done such a trip, especially when my memory was more along the lines of "we drove through town and happened to see SC." So with regret, I must mark South Carolina as the first state that I've missed.
Charleston seems the most obvious tourist destination. Since my sister lives within an easy drive (well, by North Dakota standards) I'm sure I'll get there some day.
