Songbook #26 - I Want to Hold Your Hand

Given my general lack of coordination I'm not terribly good at Rock Band. However, when it comes to singing my "not terribly good" approaches legendary proportions. To quote A Chorus Line what I lack in pitch I sure make up in Power. Even on Easy with songs I know backwards and forward I'm lucky to break a 50% rating, and I've managed to score in the 20% range on several occasions. However, when Beatles Rock Band came out there was one song that I was absolutely certain I could ace. That song is I Want to Hold Your Hand, and sure enough I knocked down a score in the high nineties my first time out. Although those present were stunned, this was no surprise to me. After all, I've been practicing that song in my head since high school.
As I've written before, my very first real job was at a locally owned fast food joint called The Dairy Bar which has long since closed. In fact, it's been closed so long that the place that replaced it has also closed. Anyway, among my coworkers was my classmate Pat. At some point Pat got on to a serious Beatles kick. I don't remember exactly what triggered this, but the end result was that when he and I were cleaning up after a long night, we often listened to the Beatles. For some reason, we started singing along with I Want to Hold Your Hand, and it sure did get stuck. It's been 16 years since then, and while I may not recall every lyric in exactly the right order, I've got the tones just right, as my Rock Band score demonstrates.
Of course, it sounds better with fans going apeshit in the background:
Man, the internet is awesome. Anyway, one day I hope I can feel that kind of crowd energy roaring off the audience around me, but until then I can sing along with this and smile.
