Some out of town travel delayed this post farther past the date of the events in question than any of my previous "last weekend" posts, but as I write this it appears my memory is actually pretty good, or maybe I've just been keeping
calendars and lists for way too damn long.
Friday night we decided to try
Herb's Tavern for dinner, which is a little family place in Rocky River that's been there for ages. They were crowded and service was a little slow, but the cheeseburger I had was solid. I'm not sure I'd rush back, but it was certainly serviceable.
M went back to Columbus for the weekend on Saturday morning. I did the usual errands and such, and then had a very busy social calendar for the afternoon.
First up was a trip the Art Museum. I'd already seen the
Kusama show twice, but I had missed the
Kusama documentary at the last CIFF. M has seen it and found it worthwhile, so when the Art Museum scheduled a bunch of showings I was excited to go. M had already mentioned most of the highlights to me when we went through the exhibition together, but I learned quite a few things and generally found it competently executed. If you like Kusama, it's certainly required viewing.
After the movie I had some free time so I was able to make it through all the other limited run exhibitions that I had not been in previously. The only one that particular caught my interest was the
Allen Ruppersberg photos taken from various billboards around Cleveland.
After that I headed up to
ayb2's house for her 40th birthday party. Due to stacked social occasions, I got there very near the posted start time and was the first guest to appear. This actually meant that I got to have a relatively long and uninterrupted conversation with
ayb2, which was very pleasant. Her husband got home with the food, which in this case was Korean potluck. I ate very well in a short amount of time, and then it was off to the next event.
Next up was
khiron1416's birthday party, which featured competing jambalaya recipes. I tried at least three and pronounced them all quite good. Aside from
khiron1416 and his family I didn't really know anyone else there but I had several pleasant conversations.
From there, it was off to Progressive Field for my last regular season game of the year. I met up with Brandt and we watched the Tribe
blow a lead over the Red Sox and then survive to walk it off in the eleventh inning. We also had some entertaining drunk women sitting near us who came close to starting a fight with the slightly less drunk female Red Sox fans in front of us, so that was nice.
Sunday was more relaxed, or at least so I remember it. I
met my new radio trainee and had fun making him cue
lots and lots of vinyl.
