I received my FEMA response yesterday. I will get $00.00. Insufficient damages. I can still live in my home. Insurance coverage. Okay, well I kinda anticipated that. My Red Cross emergency food stamps became available so I finally have meat in the freezer again. I didn't get much - $162.00 - and if you consider the prices of food and to replace your entire frig/freezer (which I keep stocked) that barely scratches the surface. But I am grateful ( Read more... )

Today, my homeowner's insurance adjuster telephoned me that he was in my area and would like to take pictures and view the damages. I had been in New Orleans all morning with work and was delighted to hear his voice on the phone, politely advising him that I was about 45 minutes away. The water is gone. The wind has stopped blowing. The sun is trying hard to get through the cloud cover, but I am full of sunshine! Rain and high winds from Hurricane Ike is pushing water into places of my Parish that were all ready devastated by Gustav. WILL IT EVER END? I have about 2 inches of standing water in my yard and rising. Around 1 am this morning the electricity went out. It was restored about an hour ago.
