Let's go to Pluto like we did before.

Dad's birthday isn't for a while, but I want to make a mix songs concerning astronomic topics. I realize I have a number of songs about robots, not related to space. I want astronomy. Suggestions?

I made one for my class while we were studying space. It did have some classics (like Star Trek intro from the TV show). David Bowie's song Space Oddity (Ground Control to Major Tom) is always a good one. They Might be Giants with the aforementioned song is a must. The Galaxy Song by Monty Python is brilliant!!!!

Space Oddity should always be followed by Peter Schilling's Major Tom. Extra points for the German version.

I presume you've already through of Wolfsheim's Approaching Light speed.

How about...

Planet Caravan, by Black Sabbath (it's a very mellow song for Black Sabbath, and is ostensibly based on a Lovecraft allusion)

Aphid Moon's A lot of Radio (if your dad's ear can take psytrance) has samples of a radio astronomer talking about extraterrestrials' likely use of Radio Astronomy.

Crystal Method's High Roller (From Vegas ) contains samples of mission control / orbiter crosstalk during Apollo 8

Anything from Gustav Holst's The Planets (Mars, The Bringer of War being the most iconic)

And of course, any of the Vangelis stuff from the Cosmos soundtrack, especially Alpha or Heaven and Hell

Well, Air's Moon Safari has a few relevant tracks, with Kelly Watch The Stars and New Star in the Sky. They also released a single a few years ago called Surfing on a Rocket.

If you're going for Bowie, don't forget that half of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars is about space or stars (Lady Stardust, Starman, Moonage Daydream, Star, etc.), though he often uses stars to refer to celebrity instead of celestial bodies. Also: Life on Mars?, Ashes to Ashes, Hallo Spaceboy

Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon is a classic, but a bit overdone.

The Pixies have songs called Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons and Space (I Believe In) on the album Trompe le Monde.

And as annoying as I find their lyrics and vocals, Rush does have a song about the 1981 space launch called CountdownI know there are bands called Tycho Brahe and Tychonaut, but I haven't listened to them. They might have some astronomy-related songs for you ( ... )
