The up arrow on my dance pad is broken, even after cleaning. I guess playing Max 300 on it after having let crud accumulate inside for a few years was probably a bad idea.

Today I implemented Conway's Game of Life on a lark. It was something to do.

Or anyway, I tried. I screwed something up, so my sim doesn't quite obey the same rules as the traditional Game of Life, which are:

• For each step, for each cell, count how many of the 8 neighboring cells are occupied.

I've managed to find a solution to the problem of constructing a 5x5x5 cube out of the 29 pentacubes, using each pentacube at most once. I've put my solution up as an image sequence here and as an animation here. In both cases the four pieces shown at the end are the four pentacubes that weren't used.
