Well, Teaa & I are all moved in (and thanks SO MUCH to everyone who helped out!). However, to the point of my post: we are getting a lot of traffic noise in the mornings through our bedroom window. Whom did you check with (just to avoid duplications)?

I've yet to have my windows worked on, but I hear ads from http://www.americanvisionwindows.com/index.html all the time.

I know lifeofreilly had his done not too long ago, but he wasn't thrilled with the install crew, so you might check with him for a "who to avoid" if nothing else.

I've really only looked on this website called soundproofwindows.com because they do what I'm looking for -- retro-fitting my existing windows, not replacing them.

gotcha. You might check with standard window replacement companies anyway to see if they are familiar with non-replacement products/processes available. If nothing else they may refer you to people who do it.

retro-fitting is pulling out the old and putting in a new. you wont have your old window any more, just the same hole. you want double paned or triple paned. you should check with the city and see if they have any programs.otherwise, there are cheaper options but you wont really have use of your window. like plastic or sound proofing stuff. heavy drapes might help too

I don't know about inexpensive windows, but I've heard that there are some thick draping materials that really cut down on noise...maybe thick drapes would help.
