Actually, when I was writing the entry, I got to that sentence, and I was like, "Ah! This is what I've been trying to say for these last 1.5 very sleepy hours!" I'm glad it made sense to someone other than just me!

First off, I will avoid the hair salon for wayyyy too long because of the issues of small talk. Ugh. Dentist is way better!

I'm still admiring your writing on LJ, particularly in the wake of my own musings lately (ugh).

I worry too much about the little things too. Geez.

(Totally disjointed tonight. Looking forward to your project, though!)

I never go back to the same hair stylist, and a large part of it is that it's easier to have that first conversation than to try to find things to talk about beyond "where do you live?" and "what do you do?". It would be nice to find someone who is both easy to talk to and a good stylist. So far, this eludes me.

How I avoid talking at the hairstylist (even though I only go once a year, if that, so you would think I could handle small talk just once a year but, NOPE ( ... )

I thought about bringing a book, but I was afraid that I'd get hair dye goop all over it... plus, I had to spend half the time with my hair so much in my face that I probably wouldn't have been able to read it. I was freed from small talk for a good long while during my appointment (which tends to run about 2 hours!) because my stylist and her assistant were speaking Arabic, and thus I had absolutely no way to break into the conversation. I was just the silent head of hair for about 30 minutes. Nothing wrong with that. And then when they did switch into English, I found that I actually had something to add to the conversation! Pretty amazing. This is not to say that I then made stellar conversation for the next 1.5 hours, but it was something, and I left with good hair.

Sometimes people think Adam and I are brother and sister. Yikes. But we also get the "aww, I bet you guys haven't been together too long!" thing, too.
