Went and toured the damage scene this morning. In the twenty-plus years since New Order recorded Love Vigilantes for the album Lowlife, the song has taken on a strange, ironic, and very tragic, if not downright prescient, significance - a fact not lost on a few contemporary artists. Below are two recent renderings by some fairly well-regarded acts:
Just got a look at Pitchfork's "20 Greatest Songs of the 00s". Apparently they perceived the decade as one big party with white powdery lines adorning every available surface. Not a trace of Wilco, Interpol or anything approaching emotional resonance or power save for a brief token nod to Arcade Fire's "Neighborhood #1". Not even White Fucking
