the last time we bought vegan duck, May Wah VegieWorld.com was having a sale so we bought some faux mutton. This evening I decided to make it into a stew.

Mutton Stew
Saute 1 leek, 1 potato cubed, 1 carrot sliced, mutton, crushed tomatoes with basil, salt, dried basil, dried oregano, water brought to a boil, then simmered until tender.

I have no idea what I was doing last year on Christmas Eve, except that we had lasagna for dinner and the Tarnstroms invited us to see the real candles lit on their tree while we sang Christmas carols and I wore my grandmother's arctic fox coat and matching hat and was not quite warm enough. It was like it was created with me in mind! Deborah made 700 bite sized latkes with all organic ingredients. There were no jelly donoughts, apple sauce or chocolate gelt to tempt me or make me ill, just 700 delicious, bite sized latkes. And oodles of menorahs. and a keyboard player, guitarist and violinist, and and over an hour of singing! ( Read more... )

I am still in awe that we had 16 people over for Thanksgiving yesterday, I spent less than $100 on groceries for the meal, our pantry is stocked with lots of delicious yummy ingredients, the refrigerator is stocked with lots of delicious yummy left overs, and all the dishes are washed, dried and put away ( Read more... )

Andrew helped => the fat was correctly measured; everything was thoroughly cooked, but not burnt; we actually followed the direction to "roll out" the pie crust with a rolling pin on a pastry board which we chilled ahead of time. This Sat. we are having a pumpkin carving party at 3:30. I will be making cider and gingerbread. Mmm...gingerbread...

If you want to join us, bring a pumpkin and your favorite carving utensil. The neighborhood kids will be in costume and parade around the block. We will be dressed in our super suits. :-)
