Two more scene caps of young Brooke Smith, this time from Robert Altman's "Kansas City" (1995) and from her break-through role in "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991):

Kansas City // The Silence of the LambsI highly recommend both movies, if you haven't seen them yet (even though the plot of "Kansas City" is a bit predictable, it's still worth ( Read more... )

This radio series was a nice surprise. Thank you to you (and to MR) for posting it.
Did you listen to Robert Altman's commentary on Kansas City? I thought that was fascinating...including the bit about the back story on the woman who inspired Brooke's character.
Yeah--made my day. Thanks.

The European release of the film hasn't got any director's commentary track on it (no special features at all, for that matter). :-(

So, if you don't mind, I'd be most grateful if you'd share that knowledge with me! :-)

Oh no...that's too bad. Some of the characters in Kansas City were apparently based on actual people, and Brooke's character and the one played by Steve Buscemi (Johnny Flynn) were among them. Altman says that Johnny Flynn abused his wife for years and then when he was hospitalized, she slipped into his room, locked the door and nearly beat him to death. I think you can sense that edginess in the movie.
Altman also talks about his fascination with KC (he grew up there), the role of music in this film and how the restoration of the train station in the film lead to the station's preservation.
Thanks for posting these videos!

There are several Brooke Smith videos I've published on YouTube (you'll find them all here.

You can use them all by either linking to the above page or to this LJ journal (I would prefer the journal, as there are wallpapers as well, but the choice is is completely up to you). :-)

Three minutes in Kansas City? That wasn't her whole role, was it?

Thanks for uploading all these clips, I haven't seen most of Brooke's movies and they're sometimes hard to find here in Europe. This is amazing :)

If you have trouble finding a certain film, let me know. (I had to order a few from the States myself.)

However, most can be purchased via Amazon.de or Play.com. :-)

I'm currently trying to get "Vanya on 42nd Street" but I guess I'll have to order this one from the States.

Try eBay (that's where I got my copy).

But make sure it is the U.S. version, as the European release is in letterbox fullscreen format (4:3) instead of widescreen (16:9)!

Correct. The only constant in both storylines is Radha Mitchell.

I didn't want to spoil the fun of the movie which is why I didn't post any details on behalf of the plot. ;-)

I've placed a link to your LJ entry above, hope you don't mind. :-)
