Doctors...

I finally went to a hand surgeon about my left index finger. He asked what we were looking at and I put my hand on the table and he went, "Ack!" (I think that's a bad sign.) He looked at it and looked at my xrays and told me I have a giant cell tumor of the soft tissue. It's rare and a little technically tricky to remove, but it has to be done ( Read more... )

I keep getting the reverse of what you have...my doctor thinks its serious and the specialist is "meh". But this is why our doctors tell us to see specialists...this is a good example of that and its good to know what it is and what you need to do to fix it. Limbo is the suck with medical stuff...not having answers I think is worse than having the answer most of the time. You got answers...though show in tell was probably not needed...cause ewww.

Hugs and luv lady! We'll be thinking of you.

Good luck--may the surgery do precisely what it is meant to accomplish, may you heal quickly, and may you never have another tumor again!

Fingers are overrated. I mean, you have ten of 'em, you can do without one, right?

It depends on the finger. Some of them are more useful than others.

This one I use for crochet and embroidery and stuff. Also I use it a lot when I type.

That's a very important finger. You should totally get that taken care of.

Oh, dear! Well, glad you took care of yourself, went to see the specialist, and that it's going to get taken care of.

Big hugs!

Thanks! You can blame my sister for sending me to the specialist. I was worrying about it at her and she started nagging me.

Doctors, the good ones anyway, are born pessimists.
They also have never gotten beyond the 9 year old mentality that gross is cool.
Neither have I for that matter... but that's just me.
The "show and tell" they did for your benefit is actually very, very useful.
Basically, some people WILL NOT, no matter how simply something is explained, no matter how many times they are told, really admit the truth of whatever medical predicament they are in.
(Not saying that's you, just a lot of people in general.)
The "oooo gross" pictures get through to these folks a good 75% of the time though.
