Holy shit! (also don't fuck it up!)

I just came across this little tidbit.  I guess I shouldn't be too surprised as Neil Gaiman has been getting more involved in the film industry.  At least, if there is anyone who isn't going to make some kind of cinematic travesty, it'll be HBO.  It looks like Gaiman himself will be involved too so I'll take that as a good sign.

This can be either so good, or so very, very bad.

Did you see they released a new version of the book too, with all sorts of extra material?

I think he has been doing more youth fiction lately - also, more TV stuff. I heard he wrote an episode of Doctor Who.

Yeah, his episode of Dr Who was probably my favourite one this season.

And I've read all his latest youth fiction!!

Ooooohhh... I like the sounds of this! There's so much awesome imagery in that book - I can totally see why someone wants to make a show about it! Exciting!

Also, I forget where I read this but the show is slated to have one of the biggest special effects budgets ever - even bigger than BSG. I don't know if that is a good or a bad sign though as I have witnessed over-reliance on special effects in the past.

I think over-reliance on speffects is mainly a problem when there is no storyline to back the effects up. Since AG is based on pretty great source material, I think the more spectacular the effects, the better!

I think acting is probably the biggest concern for me -- plus how they choose to deal with some of the psycho-religious parts of the book.

Yeah - I too worry about the cast and the acting... and also if they capture the 90's roadside attraction theme well enough or if they try to modernize it. I can't WAIT to see the giant carousel! Who the fuck's going to play Mr Wednesday?!? And could they possibly meet my expectations for that role?
