Mom & Dad & I moved to the house in Jamaica Beach last night. We have electricity but no hot water. This house suffered major damage to the ground floor & the boats, but the living quarters on houses on this end of the island are always on the second floor since there is no seawall. Just to imagine more of the power of the water and surge...
The pole below is a 42 gauge steel 8 foot long pole attached on each end to steel girders. These form a boat lift. The surge was deep enough to pin the boat up under the deck 12 feet above and hold the boat against the pole and bend in as you see:

Tomorrow morning early, I head down to Galveston to begin removing all the items in my home and laying them curbside for a machine to scoop up into a trash trailer. There will be some items I can save. There will be some I will try to save & then may later have to throw out. Tomorrow will be the hardest day for my Mom. Sometime today I will post pics of ike damage. I got somewhere between 5 to 6 inches of water throughout the house. The bamboo floors are bowing up in a big bubble and still hold some water. 4 ft  from the ground up of all sheetrock & all flooring, beds & bedding,  couches, chairs etc will be thrown out into the street. Yesterday we got moved to my brother's house in League City. He has electricity. I now have a Verizon broadband aircard so no matter who or where we get moved to, I don't have to keep trying to redo the wireless connection. Also I have a new PC TV card so when we get back I can get news even if the cable is out. The room I am in was painted the day ( Read more... )
