There is no easier way to get into the heart of the culture of another world than through the food. The aromas, the tastes, the protocols around how people eat, with whom, when. They don't discuss food in Battlestar Galactica, they just eat it, but when you read through the lines, there is plenty there to imagine.

2017 was a hell of a year. Productive, but just a little bit crazy. 2018 started out that way as well. A great many happy things happened in that time, but it ate up most of my time and energy. Now that I can breathe (forgive the pun), again, I thought I might come back to a few things.

I shouldn't have been surprised that Richard Hatch's death hit me harder than I imagined it would - I guess it was just that it came as such a shock. I wasn't expecting it, I'd had no idea he was sick, and he was only 71.
