It's a disgrace.

I have been having an enormous difficulty articulating my feelings about the handing out of The Geoffreys a few weeks back in Salem, USA.

It's just so typical of the wretched Academy to choose Collision (a gross pro-Muggle propaganda film) as the Wizarding Picture of the Year over Callouspalm Hill, a tragic love story of two dragon tamers. This ( Read more... )

I found Collision to be quite with how society is growing and changing, to be honest. How did you find it passé, Ernie?

It was harkening back to issues that have been dealt with for ages, and promoting it as something new. How are blood feuds, Muggles' rights or tragic love anything innovative? Bloody travesty that people still think them 'edgy'.

GMaBAL didn't woo us with any such illusions; simply portrayed a reality that is best not forgotten, and allowed us to make what parallels we wished.

It wasn't the general themes that were edgy, it was the way they portrayed, Ernie! Have you seen a piece on Muggle rights as raw and as gritty as it was shown in Collision? I think not, and certainly not anything that has been released in contemporary times. Films like Collision are a breakthrough and are the kinds of movies that can make everyone understand that although the themes have been talked about over the years, we just have not seen it done so vividly and candidly as this movie displayed.

I agree with that, but at some points it droned on, and even became a bit dull, to be honest. I admit that it was very educational, though.

I don't understand, how is a movie like Collision winning typical of The Geoffreys' voters? I've always read that they chose to stay away from films that dealt with seemingly controversial topics, especially those that glorified propaganda in today's society. I imagine your bias against Muggles would make you favour a movie like Callouspalm Hill, Malfoy, but that still isn't reason to blame the Academy for it. I felt they were both controversial in their own rights, and that the better movie won in the end.

I LIKE MUGGLES AND I DON'T SEE WHAT ALL THE FUSS WAS ABOUT COLLISION. IT WAS GOOD, YEAH, BUT NOT THAT GOOD.

I THINK EVERYONE WAS AFRAID TO VOTE AGAINST IT BECAUSE IT WOULD MAKE THEM LOOK ANTI-MUGGLE AND IN THIS DAY AND AGE, IMAGE IS EVERYTHING FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE ACADEMY.

BUT IT DESERVED THAT GEOFFREY.

EVEN LOCKHART WAS BETTER THAN COLLISION.

Lockhart had superb acting, but I must insist that Collision, overall, was a better film.

I'M NOT GOING TO DENY THAT THE ACTING IN LOCKHART WAS WHAT MADE IT SO GOOD. IN SOME WAYS I AGREE WITH YOU. COLLISION WAS A GREAT FILM. IF YOU WERE TO JUST HAND ME THE SCREENPLAY, I WOULD SAY CLEARLY, IT IS BETTER.

BUT THE ACTING IN LOCKHART WAS JUST SO GOOD THAT IT OUTSHONE COLLISION BY MILES BECAUSE OF IT. NOT THAT COLLISION DIDN'T HAVE SOME GOOD ACTING, BUT I THINK IT HAD TOO MANY ACTORS TO NOT FALL SHORT SOMETIMES.

WHEREAS WITH LOCKHART, I ACTUALLY PREFERRED THE ACTOR TO THE REAL THING. (WHO WOULDN'T?)

AND BY THE WAY, WHY WOULD I CARE ABOUT GEOFFREYS? LOOK, NOBODY'S MADE A MOVIE ABOUT MY LIFE, AND I DOUBT ANYONE'S GOING TO.

UNLESS FOR SOME REASON PEOPLE READ...BUT THEY WON'T. I READ IT, AND IT WAS NOT THAT GREAT.

Potter, you've replied to this post, from what I've witnessed, at least 30 times with various opinions (Ernie-bashing excluded). Why should you care about The Geoffreys? I don't know, but I'm pretty certain you do care, a bit too much if anything.

I DON'T CARE ON A PERSONAL LEVEL. I'M NOT GETTING ALL ANGRIER THAN NORMAL BECAUSE I DIDN'T GET A GEOFFREY. I WOULD'VE BEEN PRETTY SURPRISED IF I HAD BEEN NOMINATED, CONSIDERING I HAVE NEVER MADE A FILM.

Toleration isn't just a Gryffindor value, you know.

Actually, come to think of it, toleration isn't really a Gryffindor value at all. Nevermind.

My point is... well, I don't rightly recall what my point is, but I'm sure it had something to do with how stupid hating films based on irrational prejudice is, especially large, commercial films, which are almost wholly without artistic or literary merit in the first place.

WHO SAYS THAT'S NOT TOLERANCE? IT JUST MEANS YOU WOULD BE MORE TOLERABLE WITH A FOOT HITTING YOUR HEAD VERY HARD.
