This was a wonderful read. I love your Fraser voice, love the surety and unsurety, him distracting himself from emotional responses that are too frightening to him to contemplate. And I love Ray here too, wanting and insecure, and willing to take Fraser's lead.

and this line just made me go YES. Finally he understands.

"This time," Fraser said, and took a deep fortifying breath. "It isn't detrimental, Ray."

and then the rest melted me into a happy puddle.

Yay! I'm especially delighted to hear you love my Fraser voice, since I still feel less sure of his voice than Ray's. Thank you. :)

Oh.

Yes.

I love gluing-the-pieces-back-together stories. Especially with penguins. Especially especially with you writing them.

Oh.

This is wonderful! Fraser talking himself in and out of things, and the slow inevitability of self-awareness, and eeeeeeeeeeeeee, this is so gooooood!

They had, in fact, become very good at denying moments: hand-in-hand, brushing shoulders, looking at one another across a table or a warehouse, connecting, but never in any cumulative way, never in such a fashion that the connection couldn't be explained away in a moment.

Yes, yes, yes! Wonderful voices, dialogue to die for, both of them being so brave! *flaily hands of love*
