science library or law library. theyre usually isolated and if you move anything but silently in them you get looks of death. try there, go for a midlevel floor and as far away from the stairs as possible. other than that, i got no idea. good luck?

I'll definitely try looking into that, or maybe even some unused rooms that are available for studying in other buildings. thanks!

A lot of libraries these days have individual study rooms. Often they're up for grabs, but sometimes you will need an appointment to use one. I would look into it.

Also, you will need to slowly but surely get used to doing work with people around. I know you're used to keeping to yourself, but very few workplaces have solitary confinement workspaces, and so your co-workers are going to be moving all over and gabbing and getting drinks from the water cooler, etc. all day long.

I knew I'd get an answer of "just get used to it". I'm aware it's the best advice in this situation, and believe me, I really am trying, but even if it might pay off eventually, right now trying just isn't doing me any favors.

See, it's not that I have too much trouble working with people. My engineering labs have shown me that there's a lot of communication involved in whatever work I'm gonna end up doing and that's been going fine. It's mostly the way my roommate is constantly walking around and tidying up or changing clothing and basically can't stand still. Honestly, the library, even with all the people around, is an easier environment to study in, the only problem is that it's a bit of a walk and doesn't contain all my books and notes and such unless I feel like carrying quite the load.

I forgot to mention that sometimes people from this floor and a few guys from the floor above us pile into this room and make a big study group. That's the second-best situation to just having the room to myself because everybody will just grab a spot, maybe ask me for a cup of tea, and do something. Nobody's wandering aimlessly or buzzing about straightening things up or grabbing a coffee and then just pacing back and forth (there's a coffee shop in the library)

Now that I think about it, perhaps I'm misidentifying the problem. I don't need solitude, I just need calm.

That sounds about right. Is there enough room to set up some kind of cozy underneath a bunked bed? I've seen these before where a bed is propped up perpendicular to some dressers and/or another bed and the hollow directly underneath is left empty and a computer/chair/whatever is put there, sometimes with a blanket screening the area from the rest of the room. This might work out okay for a study hideaway. Also, are there common areas in your dorm? Those are sometimes good for studying.
