Does anyone else have issues with restricting your sleep?  I think about sleep all the time in the way I used to think about eating when my ED was out of hand the most-- the "I'm not worthy of the same amount as everyone else," "how could I spend the time sleeping (or eating) when I could be using that time to do something else that's more useful ( Read more... )

I think you got it right there - you don't think that you are worthy of good things in life, and it manifests in different forms. The key to ultimate recovery, in my opinion, is to go through these issues of self-hatred, and solve them. Something probably happened in your life that triggered the self-hate, or maybe it was longer-term abuse and neglect. I'd talk to a therapist.

I wish I had something helpful to say, but I really just wanted to let you know you aren't alone. I have insomnia and I'm prescribed sleeping meds, but I rarely take them because I feel like I don't "deserve" to get a good night's sleep or feel well-rested. I know it's distorted, but I associate sleep with being lazy (only for me personally, though). The guilt is just too much.

I was always very weird about sleeping when I was restricting heavily. The idea of it always just made me really anxious, I have no clue why. Like there was something else I should be doing.

I guess, for me, sleep was always kind of linked to restriction because I would stay up all night not wanting to sleep then go to sleep hungry thinking about what I would eat the next day. And then I would want to sleep in as long as possible to put off eating until late, and I would nap a lot because I was always hungry and tired and cold.
