So I'm wondering... is anyone else more excited about the sequel to The Hobbit than about The Hobbit movie itself? I'm geeking out about the latter as much I should be, don't get me wrong. But I'm so much more impatient for the sequel, especially because of the stuff with Aragorn in Rohan and Gondor ( Read more... )

James McAvoy seems *too* young, though. I'm imagining someone who would look at least comparably as old as Holm was made to look in the flashback scenes.

But maybe a younger person could still play Bilbo? After all, Frodo looks much younger in the movie than he was in the book.

I'm just thinking about consistency with the LOTR films. I mean, it's not imperative, but it would be preferable, given the seeming desire to bring some of the LOTR actors back.

*is glad there's still a reason to use these icons*

They will have to pry my LotR icons from my cold dead fingers. ;D

I know I speculated in my post that the Hobbit sequel could have young Aragorn in it... have you seen any more confirmation of that? Or are you just speculating too?

I actually think Viggo could do it. All they would have to do is clean him up and he would look much younger. :) And I agree that Ian Holm is probably too old...

Just me speculating. And wishfully thinking. And praying. And promising my firstborn to see.

The Thorongil stuff is easily the most interesting material for a movie.

*ahem*

Viggo could definitely do it! I'm just nervous that he might not want to, knowing how odd he is.

Oh James McAvoy is so cute!! I'm not sure i see him as Bilbo, though. He doesn't have the weight, for one thing; he's scrappier. And with eyes like that, he looks ready for an adventure. Not comfortable sitting at home smoking his pipe. I thought Sean Astin was really the most hobbity of the LotR hobbits. I'll think on it, though.

Also, what's the deal with the Hobbit sequal? What source are they pulling it from?

*is being convinced that James McAvoy is too young and lively to be Bilbo*

*sighs*

Perhaps I just want to see Mr. McAvoy in.... anything. ;)

As for the sequel, supposedly they're pulling it from the timeline material between TH and LOTR. Lots of good stuff is in there!

Wow talk about a story with no resolution! 'And then a bunch of stuff happened that didn't really accomplish anything permanent so they had to go have the Fellowship of the Ring anyway'. More or less. Of course, bits of it could be good...

Okay! How about Michael Sheen? Maybe a little TOO old, and he'd have to gain some weight for the early scenes, but he's got a cute hobbity face.

Funny that you mention that, Maka, because just today I was looking at your page about Arwen Merch at not-arwen and *dying* laughing at work. I finally had to send the link to my coworker because he wanted to know why I was doubled up at my desk.

I guess I am off living in a meteor galaxy (or whatever the phrase you used was, lol) again, but....

there's going to be a Hobbit sequel??! What's it going to be about? Please don't tell me they are just going to make up a story.

I hope they use as many of the original actors as possible, honestly, for continuity's sake. I think Viggo could play a younger Aragorn just fine--in fact, we can assume that his looks didn't change too much throughout his adult life since he was in his 70s/80s (?) in the original trilogy. One would assume he's looked like that since his 30s.

I'm a terrible, terrible fan.

Yeah, they're doing The Hobbit and then a sequel. It wouldn't be making up a story because they're pulling the material from the timeline between TH and LOTR... most of which involves Aragorn's travels in Rohan and Gondor.

Woot!
