Domesticity and Star Trek - IDIC?

May 30, 2009 17:15

Well, I don't post much, do I? But I iz still alive, and keeping pretty well, if a bit sneezy, thank you for asking ♥

I've been generally busy with work, and school, and some nice people coming to visit me, but I've been dopey and lurky and short of coherent things to say - so no change there really ;-)

But a few topics seem worthy of remark

You didn't miss anything with 10. If you don't mind being spoiled, then go here for a good ol' laugh. I think it stands pretty well without having seen the movie, really.

Though I was okay with 9, despite the odd number curse. *shrugs*

I felt all the actors were bloody good -- really enjoyed Simon Pegg's Scotty to my surprise, especially his, "Get tae--!" at his wee alien friend; though I suspect enjoyment of that might depend on whether you've lived in Scotland or not. Only kinda weak one was whatshisface playing Kirk though, IMO, Kirk is one of the weakest characters. Still. Karl Urban looking all scruffy with facial hair? Doctor, I find I'm in urgent need of a check up...

Snuffly? Oh dear, not hayfever I hope? You have my sympathies if it is -- one day I shall invent giant condoms for the trees and we shall be spared this terrible attack of plant jizz. In the meantime: *offers honey*

The picture summary was indeed highly entertaining - and seemed vaguely familiar - so perhaps I have seen ST10 - Nemesis, but had selectively forgotten it?

I agree with you rather about Chris Pine (Kirk), although I thought it was quite a neat idea to make Kirk even more of a hellion that previously - I suspect he will grow on me. And one thing the film needed was more McCoy and Scotty = more McCoy, Scotty and fanatical devotion to the Pope....

I don't have a specific allergy really - just universal snottiness - it's not too bad really, but thanks for the honey, honey ♥

I'm so glad Jet's adventure ended well (well, well enough *g*) I was a bit worried for a minute there!

Star Trek. Oh, let me count the ways... *g* I seem to have made my way through all of seasons one and two on dvd in my revision breaks now. Still unable to look back over the movie without feeling gutted for Spock Prime (having as you do a high exposure to the angst-reaction mechanisms of my fic!brain, you will probably not be surprised to hear that this makes me love the movie more *g* Actually, I keep thinking about the implications of it and feeling a mixture of sadness that it is so, and then gladness that JJ Abrams et al didn't just start over and remake the whole thing but kept all that had gone before canon, and just added to it - having their cake and eating it if ever I saw it)

Kirk/Spock/McCoy
Jeremy/James/Richard
Gary/Jason/Mark

...the list goes on *g*

*squishes you, invents better antihistamines* ♥

Sorry - didn't mean to worry you re Jet - perhaps I should have added a "Very Mild Peril" warning ;-)

I have made an appointment with the ENT consultant on (checks notes) 16th June - perhaps it is time for a polypectomy again - I will ask his opinion, at least.

I am obliged to raise you a Scotty, an Andy and, of course, a Howard - Four Hearts, is after all, Game ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

It is always kind to ask surgeons their opinions - it makes them feel loved *g*

I did feel a lack of particularly Howard in the above lists, I must say! But then three is so much easier to write than four... Also: 'Four Hearts is Game' is *so* a Mills and Boone title and demands a suitable fic *ponders*

I'm also glad CE had no attacks of age-forgetting this year, I do feel a great deal of fellow-sufferer sympathy for that! *g*

*hugs you back*

Re total different conversation elsewhere - I was not smug when I was pregnant either - mostly just nauseous ;-) But people do ask daft questions a lot - I think mostly they mean well and are just trying to be friendly - I do it myself I'm sure, but I should try to keep it under control ♥

lol. yeah.

people are so extreme. all we need is some mutual respect and understanding that our experience doesn't dictate everyone else's experience and we're good to go imo. we shouldn't have to be overbearing OR underplay the significance of something just cos other people only use themselves as a frame of reference.

and oh. sorry. i didn't know i was going to rant....

Feel free to rant - you're interesting ♥

I'm pretty sure I do see the world through a filter of my own experience, because hey, that's what I've got to work with, after all, but sometimes I manage to keep an open mind.

And, to be honest, arguing and being didactic can be a fun game to, if done in the right spirit, and that's OK with me too.

OK - I match your rant and raise you a waffle!

Thanks, honey - it's great to have you back too, and read about your life even though am too lurky to say sensible things.

I must say 5(+1) kitties sounds lovely, but I cannot join your tricycle gang, since going back from a bike to a trike gives weird balance issues.

*hugs*

Hola!!

It's nice to 'see' you.

Oh no poor kitty. I do have agree that they do get all embarrassed when they do the stupid. If then were a bit more humble I don't think the embarrassment would sting as much.

BTW I've been giving some of things James May has been in a look see. We saw this thing about old toys with his sister and this cool thing he did about ideas. He does seem the kind I guy I would get along with. I don't think that I would want to kill him on sight like Clarkson and I don't think I would get all stupid and 16ish the way I would with Hammond. He doesn't seem to take himself to seriously and he doesn't make an effort to make a fool of himself. You know he just seems like a normal guy.
hmmmm wasted a lot of you space on that.

We haven't seen the new ST yet. *hangs head* I liked TNG and Voyager the best. I didn't like the OS BUT I never thought Shit-ner was worth anything. I am very much looking forward to seeing the new movie. I'm hoping it's new enough for me and true enough for hubby. Tall order I know but still

Hola!

It is only sensible to like James May - he does definitely seem to be on about our wavelength. Hammond is too cute for his own good, and Clarkson, I agree, is more like Marmite - but life would be dull if we all had the same tastes ;-)

IMHO Star Trek XI does a good job of appealing to lots of different people, so I'll stick with my recommendation - but most of my gang are dyed-in-the-wool Trekkies anyway. I'd be interested to hear your opinion when you get a chance ♥

Yay, someone else who hates the Shat! I am going to go to a corner and fangirl you now, based purely on your excellant taste.

Except TOS is great because it's got Chekov who is adorable and Scotty who is awesome and Spock who is smex. Yes.

You can include me in that not-keen-on-Shatner set too. However, I'm not as extreme an anti-fan as some (much as I'm somewhat unconvincing as a fan). You even have the same TOS three whom I prefer (though again, I'm likely to be less extreme in that).
