As per a conversation on the radio between a male and female host.

Female Host: My girl friend was dating a guy for years and he recently broke up with her and said that She's the one but the timing is wrong for him so he's going to date a bit more and then see where things go with them in the future

Male Host: She's not the one, She's his back up!

This is so right. Also a lot of times people will just stay in a relationship because of comfort / fear of not being able to find anyone else even though they aren't happy.

i think those feelings are not mutually exclusive. when either party is just "settling", that doesn't bode well for the relationship.

this reminds me of the friend's episode where rachael and phoebe have "backups" just in case they don't get married by a certain age and pick Ross and Joey as their backups =)

I agree with the male host- all the reasons they give like "bad timing", is a cop out. If they find the ONE..they know.
