I've been thinking a lot...

about stuff that I used to enjoy doing, and things that I now find annoying. Mostly this has to do with the SCA and how my interest in it has waxed and waned over the years. I was pretty excited about the Barony up here, seemed like a chance to be a big part of something cool. Thing is, I don't really have a lot in common with most SCA folks ( Read more... )

I am trying to choose my words carefully, but it's difficult. You're coming across to me like you're saying that you don't like the people you proposed to lead, that the 10% of the people you "like" are off-Island. It is difficult to view the words above in a positive light.

You wanted to be Seneschal. I assumed that this meant that you liked and wanted to be around the people you would have represented if chosen. Why would you bother representing people you don't like and take responsibility for co-ordinating activities that you see no value in?

I found this post to be very mean and hurtful and while I don't think you meant me or Mischa, it's hard not to feel lumped in with the 90%.

Most of the people who showed up at the meeting that I'd never met in person before, really had nothing to do with all the work we had done. I asked several of them about what they had posted and seen and nearly everyone of them said 'I don't check that stuff but I wanted to come and vote.' which meant, to me, that they didn't know fuck all about what was going on, but had been told that 'I' was an asshole and trouble maker and that they should show up and make sure I wasn't a part of things ( ... )

You know I love you Mark, and I wouldn't be saying this if I didn't. It seems to me that you're making alot of assumptions here. In reading your note, I see the words "I figure" and "which meant to me". You could just be misinterpreting the reactions. I think you were asked to be the deputy senechal because you're a valuable commodity. You have some great ideas, you were around when Seagirt was created, you've been through the process, and you are a smart and knowledgable guy! Instead of looking at the negative, try and look at the positive.

This is a new position for Elizabeth, she may need help, and you may be the guy to give it to her... keep an open mind!

Erin, I can read a lot of people like smelling a fart in the car. I can pretty much sense what folks are going to do, it has served me really well when I fought people, and its one of the reasons why a lot of folks don't like to debate or argue with me, I can sense what pisses them off and capitolize on it. Usually though I just use it to shock and make people laugh ( ... )

Bottom line, Sgain, is your an ass. So am I. And uninformed, "uneducated in the SCA ways" people don't like that. We do what has to be done and people get pissed when we do it. They don't know the rules and get upset when you invoke one ( ... )

I think you just need to look more on the positive side of things my friend, you seem to always look at the dark clowds and not the silver lineing ( I know its hard not too with the shit you have been through over the years ) but life gets alot easier to deal with if you start looking at the bright side of things.

Even though it is hard to do, think of it this way...wouldn't you like to have sophie grow up knowing her dad was a nice layed back cool dude...or some crotchity grumpy old man who gets pissed at everything?

I have seen both sides of you and I must say I like the first one better. You are a very kind person with a big heart, listen to it more and you will find life will better for you.
