In Character Information
character name: Rhode Kamelot
Fandom: D.Gray-Man
Timeline: I'll be taking Rhode from the end of 204, which is something of a canon update after she left her last game.
character's age: She's somewhere between 35 and 7,000 (her exact age hasn't been specified in canon), but she appears to be about 13-15.
powers, skills, pets and equipment:
Powers - Rhode has several distinct abilities, even for a Noah. As a Noah, however, there are some that are simply inherent, such as her ability to command the akuma, and she's immune to the poison in the akuma's blood. Most of the Noah hate the taste, but Rhode seems to actually like it. She also has very quick regenerative abilities, and she can create prisons around people, entrapping them inside boxed barriers. She's also basically ageless, but she does have the ability to change her form at will, and with that, I believe, comes the ability to change her age and appearance in more slight terms as well (such as in canon when she suddenly goes from looking like a flat-chested pre-teen to an hourglass-figured teenager). Because of this specific ability, no one knows her true form's appearance, and without knowing it, she can't be killed, rendering her mostly immortal.
As the Dreams of Noah, she has the ability to create her own dream worlds separate from reality and yank other people into them - normally whoever she feels like, though it seems in canon that she needs to be close to them physically. Inside these dream worlds, she controls the entire setting, which can prove to be very dangerous for whoever she's decided to trap inside with her. She's the only one who can manipulate space and reality, creating doors that can allow her to move anywhere; this is more than likely borne from her being the only one besides the Earl himself and the 14th who can control the Ark. She also normally shows her ability to bend reality to her will by attacking Exorcists with sharpened candles.
I'd love for her to keep all of these powers, but she won't be keeping her “pet” Lero, who's basically her babysitter.
Skills - She's a charmer, so she obviously knows how to manipulate others to get what she wants or needs, but other than that, a good chunk of her powers seem to be of the otherworldly variety. She can also speak English, Japanese, and German, I believe, as she enters both countries and remains perfectly understandable to the people living there.
In the later chapters, it's been revealed that she knows of the Bookmen and their goings-on, but the extent of her knowledge has yet to be revealed - as does her age and her background. It's probable that's been around for a good amount of history and knows far more about the human psyche than she lets others believe; this combined with her apparent sadism seem to make her quite the sociopath. She can analyze people, groups, and entire situations simply by observing for a short while before putting her other powers to good use. This more than likely stems from centuries of watching humans and civilizations around her, and it helps key up her manipulative abilities to an all-time maximum.
She also seems to be lacking severely in the conscience department - though not completely. She regrets some things while feeling that others - such as killing people and mutilating them - are totally justified, and never offers them a second thought. This helps her go much further than most people would.
canon history:
HERE personality:
Rhode has a surprisingly normal, child-like personality the majority of the time; she loves to be entertained, and if she doesn't receive almost constant attention or entertainment, she will throw a temper tantrum, just like any child. However, this shows to be more of a persona that she uses to help herself deal with the rest of the world and the Family; it helps her get what she wants, so to speak. Rhode is actually very calculated and cold, though this side tends to only come out when her temper's been truly tested. She has secrets and an unknown past, and those are things that she would like to keep under wraps; she loves to be mysterious, while she always seems to have a knack for figuring out everyone else. She probably views that as a clear advantage, and uses it whenever she gets the chance. While she does come off as a rather adult thinker, she also continues to show some childlike mannerisms - such as the way she never verbally curses, though she clearly has those words in her vocabulary and isn't afraid to use them, as shown when she writes the word “fuck” in Miranda's blood. The fact that she's so skilled at playing the spoiled bratty child leads me to assume that was the age she felt the most comfortable during humanity, or possibly when she was changed from a regular human to a member of the Noah family, which was probably a very important turning point in her life. She never really lets herself lose control or get obviously angry over anything - not anything important or serious, anyway. The only time she yells or strikes out of anger is when she's with the Family talking about silly subjects, but when she witnesses Tyki being stabbed by Allen's Innocence - which is fatal to Noah and akuma - she maintains an eerie calm that seems to be the complete opposite of her normal demeanor. She remains level-headed under intense pressure, simply because she knows what she's capable of and what everyone else around her is capable of. Fights, to her, are like a game she's already figured out and won - in her head. Rhode views herself and her Family as unstoppable, and she's completely firm in her decision to wipe out humanity. It's not exactly a God-complex, really; it's more that she and her Family believe they were chosen by God to help the world reset itself, in a way, because it's become deformed and full of sins that can't be forgiven. She doesn't see good or bad; she just sees human, and is dead set that they don't deserve to keep going.
She's obviously spoiled, but it's unclear by who: her adoptive father Cyril Kamelot, her uncle Tyki Mikk, or the Earl - or all of them combined. She has a distinct sadistic nature, much like the child who loves lighting ant hills aflame with a magnifying glass, and this shows in her dealing with the Exorcists and other humans. This is shown when she destroys an akuma just to anger Allen, and also when she nails Miranda Lotte's hand to the clock in the Rewinding Town Arc, using the woman's blood to write a profane message. The strange part of that, though, is that she does have the capability to simmer down and actually care about people - though it doesn't come to her very easily. A relationship has to be built and worked on, and she would have to see the other person as worthy of her attention but weaker than she is, so that she can remain in control.
Although she hates and despises humans, she has an obvious fondness for Allen Walker - a feeling that she only seems to have toward her uncle Tyki Mikk and the Earl himself; it's not clear whether this is meant in a romantic way or simply an affectionate way, but her demeanor and mood seems to change whenever Allen is brought up in conversation, or whenever he appears. When she first encounters him on the Ark, Road launches herself at Allen, kissing him; however, this is the only evidence as of yet that her feelings for Allen are in any way similar to a crush. The rest of her interaction with him seems to suggest an affection of a deeper, more profound nature, possibly due to the fact that Allen harbors the 14th Noah, Nea, who could actually be termed a “relative” of hers, due to his own genes he inherited from Noah. Family is especially important to Rhode, even though she's a brat and treats the majority of them like dirt under nails at times; she'd come to their aid whenever they asked, for whatever reason.
Road only has two people who really mean something to her: the Millenium Earl, and her uncle Tyki Mikk. Tyki is the Lust of Noah, who apparently is the real brother of her adoptive father, Cyril Kamelot. The Millenium Earl is, in the series, akin to evil incarnate, despite his cartoonish appearance, but Tyki himself is shown to be one of the more humane Noah; one of the quotes that can be found in DGM that adequately describes him has been translated to read: “I destroy what I love. I love humans.” This leads me to believe that Tyki is working toward the same goals as the other Noah for an entirely different reason, but he still cares for and dotes on Road the same as everyone else, including the Earl himself. Road is used to being cared for 24/7, and pampered to a ridiculous degree. She has no real sense of decency or manners, nor does she really feel any sense of responsibility - which is actually quite ironic, given that her true age is more like 45 than 13.
why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?
This is definitely not a hard question, considering the type of person Rhode is; with her characterization, there comes this sheer insanity. She would become fast friends with someone just before ripping their heart out through their sternum, giggling cheerfully as she did. DGM itself is a fairly horrific kind of setting sometimes, but Rhode is one of the characters who make it so.
Previously Played Information
previous game:
kannagara_rpg/
kannagara_net length of time there: About six months with Rhode, played another character there for about a month prior to apping her.
important development and/or events in your previous game: When Rhode first arrived at Kannagara, the only people she knew there were the Exorcists. During her time there alone, she quickly learned that nothing was sacred - not even dreams. After one of her own nightmares was broadcasted over the network via her own Hitomi, she ended up connecting a little more closely with Allen and a vampire girl named Jessica, while shutting out several others. Though she held a very short conversation with Lenalee, her opinion of the Exorcist girl just went downhill, and she began to solidify a pretty firm dislike of the other girl.
Shortly after, Tyki, the Earl, and Debitto also arrived, and Nightmare Week began - an event where everyone's powers returned full force and several monsters from the characters' homeworlds came in. Some akuma were among them, and Rhode helped command them. Throughout that week, she enjoyed the return of her dreamworld power, and went through the DGM OT4, pulling them each into their own nightmares - Lavi, Lenalee, Kanda, then finally Allen. The first three went according to her own plan, but the last one with Allen quickly flew out of her control (*note: That thread was never actually completed, but we handwaved the end result); she pushed too hard, bringing the Fourteenth out of Allen, who brutally murdered and mangled Rhode. Once she was dead, the dreamworld ceased to exist, and the Fourteenth became sealed inside Allen's body once again, though most of his injuries remained. He was carried off by Cross before the other Noah could come along to collect Rhode's body.
The next day signaled the end of the event, and Rhode was reborn after spending some quality time in Kannagara's version of hell. It was overall a thoroughly traumatizing experience for her, never having died before, and she ducked out of the public eye for quite some time, keeping away from the Exorcists and holing up in a house with the Earl, who took it upon himself to come up with a master plan to get revenge on Allen for killing Rhode. He took on the guise of Adam Walker, the father of Neah and Mana Walker; Neah was the original Fourteenth Noah, and Mana, his brother, became Allen's adopted father. We had a Mana in-game who moved in with "Adam" and, secretly, Rhode, who kept out of mind and out of sight. Around this time, Tyki disappeared and Debitto became more and more difficult to locate, but Rhode was preoccupied with watching the rest of Kannagara and biding her time.
Then another Rhode breakdown came when the Earl himself disappeared as well; in a rage, she forgot her intention to lie low and stormed out of the house she'd been hiding in, which was close to the Exorcist compound. She was determined to pull Allen into a rage-filled fight, but to prevent a total meltdown from occurring in his own home and around his friends and the other people he was currently protecting, he hoisted her onto his shoulder and carried her outside, and they talked instead. It was a very heated conversation at first, both of them very angry with the other, and Allen, of course, feeling quite guilty for killing Rhode - a card she had no problem playing - ended up giving her his cloak. The exchange ended with the two of them coming to a strange sort of truce, especially after Rhode revealed to Allen that she'd known Mana before, when Neah was still alive.
After that, things died down again for a time. There was a 4th Wall Event, and Rhode met herself, several Tykis, and more Allens than she knew how to deal with. It was only for a day or two, and afterward things started to return to normal. Allen found her a house to call her own, far from the Exorcists and everyone else he was trying to keep safe. Part of their new truce was that he started coming around her house more in secret, to keep her company and try to give her some sense of family and stability. It worked, and she very rarely went out of her way to troll the other people in Kannagara, and she intentionally left the other Exorcists alone - well, for the most part. She would never completely stop trolling them, but she did hold up her end of the bargain not to bring them - or anyone else - bodily harm of any kind.
This part of the truce was soon abandoned though; there was the Marriage Event that swept through Kannagara, several unlikely mates pairing up together - some even in threesomes. It was a very strange time. Allen and Rhode themselves magically woke up one morning in the same bed, believing themselves to be married. They spent the three or so days of their magic-induced marriage in Rhode's house in Yomisato, freaking everyone else out with it. Surprisingly, being married to Allen did very little to change her base personality; she still teased and trolled him mercilessly, even going so far as to start introducing herself as "Rhode Walker" and getting into a fight with Debitto, which ended in her accidentally stabbing him in the hand.
The last night of their "marriage" Allen ran off to deal with a situation - one where another outsider had been captured and was awaiting execution for aiding a young woman in her own escape from a wrongful execution. This left Rhode alone all night, and she had another nightmare; this time, when she woke up, fully recovered from believing that she was married to Allen Walker, Rhode realized she was in the process of being kidnapped. She was knocked out again and didn't wake up again until later, when she found herself caged in an underground facility. She was trapped there for some odd days, experimented on so that the natives to Kannagara could figure out more about her and her powers. There were others there, caged and experimented on with her (Elle Bishop and Claire Bennett from Heroes and Jessica Hamby from True Blood among them), and the only reason it took Rhode so long to contact Allen was "boredom." She claimed to have finally sent him the coordinates to save her when she finally became bored with the situation, but in all actuality she was trying to get herself out of her own mess, not wanting to rely solely on Allen and Debitto to save her.
In the end, though, she gave in, and we handwaved Allen and Debitto rescuing her as the Kannagara natives were attempting to move her to another underground medical facility, and she was injured while they were getting her out. The two boys managed to return her to her house in Yomisato, which was also where the base for the experimentation was, incidentally not far from where she lived. Rhode was left with a bruised and cut face and body, hurt left arm, and a black eye. Because of how close she still was to the natives, who had a strange kind of depowering power, she could still use her doors for shorter distances, but her body was taking its sweet time while healing. It managed to get completely healed up as she started to help out some of the other outsiders, who were planning a rescue for all their captured brethren. Because Allen and Debitto had both disappeared from Kannagara, Rhode saw fit to help them because it served her own purpose - revenge and justice. Though she helped to get them started, mainly by sending the right coordinates to Matt and Elfangor, Rhode disappeared herself when they started their journey to the facility.
After she returned home for a while (to be updated from chapter 203 to 204) she arrived in Scorched, where she wasn't at all surprised to find Allen (who also somehow retained his memories from Kannagara) but was shocked to find Tyki - who obviously didn't recall everything that had happened in Kannagara or in their own world in the recent timeline. This was a very frustrating revelation to her, but she tried to get over it quickly; after all, what good would getting frustrated do when she had other things to worry about?
Immediately out of the starting gate, one such worry arises; she discovers from Lavi that the Fourteenth had made an appearance right before her arrival in Anatole. Trying to hide her devastation at this revelation, Rhode immediately seeks out the two people she knows would give her whatever information about the Fourteenth and any confrontations that resulted from his presence - Tyki and Allen. Sadly, neither were very helpful to her, and bringing the subject up with Tyki just opened a can of worms Rhode simply didn't want to deal with at the moment. She doesn't know how to answer his questions, so she tried to ignore them in the hopes that they would go away and the two of them could just get past the whole rotten ordeal. Tyki abides, as usual, and their relationship goes back to normal - even though both feel moderately awkward over it afterward.
Before long, Allen disappears, which Rhode doesn't really think much of. He takes that annoying Link with him, for which she's both grateful and, well, annoyed. (He was fun to tease!) Anyway, about that time there's a Broadcast Mind, and a short memory from Kannagara is broadcasted for everyone to see; it's a piece of her memory from when she trapped Allen inside her dreamworld and tortured him, but this specific section is of the tables turning, the Fourteenth suddenly snapping free and attacking her. Rhode obviously gets plenty of questions regarding such a strange and vague memory of the incident, but she also obviously avoids answering the majority of those questions. Sore subject and all.
She makes more friends and enemies-who-are-something-like-friendly. Break and Hades become pretty common finds in her dealings with other people, and for a time she rather enjoyed talking to Alice B. Rabbit, even though the girl really got on her nerves and their conversations would normally end in a Loli Fight. Some time passed, and Tyki also disappeared - right about when the city was attacked by monstrous things Rhode herself couldn't even identify or fight. She escaped into the mist to avoid them as they practically destroyed the city, but at the cost of her sanity for a short time; because of her time in the mist, she landed herself in a dreamworld fight with Roxas (that got handwaved between myself and Roxas-mun)

The girl coughed sharply as she sat up in a strange bed, blinking and looking around. It was midday, she could tell once she looked out the window; the sun was high in the sky, and Rhode wondered how many days had passed since the night she remembered - since running with Allen and Tyki from the Exorcist headquarters. Since the Apocryphos set on their trail in the middle of a moonlit forest...
Everything had been black before this. Now everything was bright, and she didn't recognize this place at all; when she looked to her left, she discovered she'd been left in a simple room, the majority of it dim and dreary on the other side of the window. It wasn't home, that was for sure, and it wasn't that other place she remembered being yanked to - Kannagara.
No, this wasn't Himorogi, but she still had no idea how she'd gotten here. She didn't think that Innocence-made monster had hit her that hard.
Rhode was getting tired of being yanked around by unseen forces that weren't her. She didn't enjoy being manipulated, even to save her life. After all, if this body met its untimely end, she would simply be reborn as another person, with the same memories of Noah.
Her skirt was torn, but she paid it no attention; to her right, there was a device that looked eerily similar to the Hitomi. Grabbing it, she slowly stood, one hand on her stomach as she winced from the slight twinge of pain there. She was still sore from that damn Apocryphos; Allen owed her big for that one.
Scrunching her nose, she activated the device, still not sure where she was or whether it was called a Hitomi. "Allen," she said into it before breaking off into another cough, her ribs aching. "Tyki? Tell me you're here..." If no one answered, she supposed she could figure something out. This wasn't the first time she'd been caught unaware and in a new, strange place; before she discounted their help, though, she needed to make absolutely sure that they wouldn't be available to her.
Something, however, told her they were here. Somewhere, but they were close. They wouldn't abandon her with that thing hot on their heels, no matter what happened at Kannagara...
Anything else? Parts of Rhode's characterization and her logs at Kannagara were based on headcanon that I will be working to retcon starting at Scorched... sob. Based on newer chapters that have recently come out, I've changed my opinion on how she felt (and still feels) toward the Fourteenth. Before, I had her pegged as being somewhat wary of him resurfacing, based out of something akin to fear or fright... but now I feel that they had a closer relationship, something like the relationship she now shares with Tyki Mikk. The wariness will remain, because he killed most of their Family, but this will be mostly due to the fact that she herself will feel personally betrayed.
Also, if you would like a different sample since I'm recycling this one from the last time I apped her, just let me know, and I'll be more than happy to try to work something out for you guys! I'm just tired and a little lazy when I can manage it right about now, lol!
