Given my previous experience suborning and reprogramming Federation computers, and their continuing lack of competent security protocols (especially as compared to the
Imperial Standards by which I was trained), it was not difficult for me to gain control of the new computer core which
Lothar had installed aboard Surak's Razor. Once I had access to the helm, I set a course away from
Starbase 668. While I continued to master the computer, and to explore the other modifications done to the ship, I set a cruising speed of warp four, with only two of the ship's six nacelles activated.
Surak's Razor began its existence as a Klingon
Raptor-class scout ship approximately two centuries ago. When I
encountered her, she was in the possession of a group of Orion Syndicate smugglers, licensed for "trade and salvage". All of the original armaments had long since been removed, presumably when it made the transition to a privately-owned civilian vessel; but the Syndicate had covertly
re-armed it by secretly boosting the strength of the tractor and phaser beams that were intended for maneuvering cargo and cutting into abandoned ships. They also added two single-shot photon torpedo tubes, hidden amidst the warp field generators (which masked the torpedo tubes from enemy sensors). Most of the internal circuitry had been replaced and upgraded with more modern, smaller components which freed up a great deal of space within the craft; much of this space was employed as cargo holds (one of which was well hidden, for the storage of contraband cargo). The deflector shields were of standard civilian issue, although a larger warp core had been installed (the explanation given for this was to provide the ship with towing capabilities).
Once I had taken control of the vessel, I made many custom modifications of my own, including an upgrade to the
communications array which allowed for greater range, and greater decryption capabilities for breaking the codes and listening in on whatever transmissions I was able to receive.
During a previous period in which Surak's Razor was in the possession of my Federation analog
Storvik and his Counsellor Lothar, the ship was
significantly upgraded. Fugitives from the law in need of speed and stealth, they had added
Excelsior-class warp nacelles and a
Norway-class warp core (the last with help from
Mib Khan) to the small scout ship. Finally, they hollowed out an asteroid containing
sensor-scrambling minerals to provide Surak's Razor with a thick layer of stealth armor.
Later, Surak's Razor was
seriously damaged when
Not So Nice Khan attacked, capturing both Storvik and myself and bringing us back to the
ISS Murgatroid in my universe of origin. Lothar
found her and repaired her, but the computer was no longer functioning properly - it insisted on
believing that it was an
elevator, the result of a
type of virus that
Evil Janeway created to destroy the
USS Murgatroid However, the virus ended up
destroying the
ISS Voyager instead - although Surak's Razor's computer was destroyed in the process. Lothar stole a new
computer core, as well as some gravity plating, holoemitters, and other assorted pieces of equipment, from the USS Cairo. I can only assume that the reason the nacelles are not all pointing in the same direction is that Lothar meant to allow for rapid course changes by adjustment of the activation and power levels of the different paired sets of nacelles; although this could easily result in a side effect of different parts of the ship heading off in different directions at warp speed, independent of each other, if the operations were not perfectly balanced and calibrated.
And this is the ship of which I have once again gained control.
