I was THIS close to being scammed............ for $2100

A few weeks ago, a guy contacted me via email about potential translation jobs. Said he was going to Japan in January and needed a couple of documents translated. The documents were related to FOREX (foreign exchange market) and I figured he was going there to give a seminar or something ( Read more... )

you were VERY lucky to have such a vigilant husband! in florida they are now prosecuting people so if you were scammed you could also face jail time in addition to the fees and loss of money! there are ways to verify the check before you deposit it but i did hear of one person in my local paper who got arrested - the only reason she got off was because she showed emails / had the envelop/ and did not cash the check. she did to jail time but they dropped charges

be careful! we would miss you if something like that happened!

I'm all over this like flies on poo! XD...You probably have a pretty good inkling of how much time I've spent reading about this sort of thing XD. I'm just glad nothing bad came of it <3.

Wait! Give me his email! I want to 419 his ass! XD

Also, I've heard you can do this...keep the emails, and they can figure out where they originated from. I'll bet you anything they won't originate anywhere near where that guy said he was located. And of course, the guy isn't traveling either, he (or actually she, possibly) is sitting right there waiting for that moolah XD, or now, mourning the loss of a quick illegal payday and moving on to the next person.

For some strange reason, this subject excites me XD...yes, I'm strange. XD

you should have just confronted him right there and go... "I know you're a fucking scammer and I hope you rot in Jail" and then end it at that.

P.S. you can probably just post ur translation work somewhere.... maybe one day it'll be useful for at least one person ^^ = time not wasted
