All day long, something's been nagging at my brain.
All over LJ yesterday, and in the news, there were people saying, "Why didn't they leave?!"
I think that enough people have countered that particular fallacious, victim-blaming mindset (with nods to wicked_wish,and scott_lynch, among others). What I want to address is something nobody seems to be considering

There is a transport going down this weekend, very last minute and critical. Eight dogs (if I did my quick math right) who need transport from Houston, TX to Minneapolis. The shelter they are currently at is quick to kill dogs at the least provocation, as they did about a month ago. That story is here.
I'm off again on a transport this morning. This time it's Cassie, a 4-year-old Brittany Spaniel. I'm going to drive her from Des Moines to Clear Lake. This will be the fifth dog I've transported since joining driveforlife.

It's very nearly 3am, and I'm wide awake. I have no idea why this is. At least I've savored my time, reading Stephen King's On WritingIt sparked something

It amazes me how many parents have a difficult time with the concept of their children having actual, you know, LIVES that do not include their parents. I think that, theoretically at least, parents have probably the best idea of what's best for their children... outside of the child himself
