After two days in Nagoya, we decided to take a day trip to Kyoto.  Kyoto preceded Edo (now Tokyo) as the capital of Japan from 794 to 1868; Kyoto now serves a much higher purpose as the location of the world headquarters of Nintendo.  Just kidding.  ;)   We hopped a taxi from Kyoto Station to the Kinkaku-ji, the world-famous Golden Pavilion Temple ( Read more... )

After drinks at Smash Head, we visited the nearby Osu, a sprawling old-style small-trader shopping market spreading out from the Osu Kannon Temple.  The covered streets selling fashion garments, electronics, alternative medicines, etc., give a taste of what Japan might have been like before modernization.

The Monster Squad is FINALLY coming to DVD this July and it'll be packed to the gills with features (maybe they'll do an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray version?!?!?!  Fingers crossed.)  Holy cow.  I've only been waiting forever.  I'm totally having a viewing party...   :)
