Oh he definitely explained it all. After which Sulu made this face: ";A;" and refused to let Chekov go for 24 hours straight until Chekov was like "ok Hikaru I have to go to the bathroom and I'm also getting kind of sweaty"

And then Sulu waited outside the bathroom for him to hug him again. :`|

This. is. so heartbreaking and sweet omg, this could've gotten so melodramatic, in a less talented writer's hand?? but how you handled it was perfect. It was sincere, instead of manipulative? if that makes sense. Chekov's confusion/shame about wanting to open/commit to Sulu felt very very real D: MAN I kept rereading the scene where he breaks up with Sulu DD: it's so heartbreaking!! and then his struggling to rationalize and downplay his hurt and need for Sulu ;_______________; gosh I love love that paragraph about soaking up Sulu's warmth is like ~charging~ him. Like, learning that just because you can see the wires that doesn't make the play have less value?? LIKE I love the idea that he's ~learning~ love, that's so sweet lol. This fic made me happy ;_;

I think the wires he saw weren't doing what he assumed they were doing. And there were some wires he couldn't see because he'd never seen them before. And the magic of a play isn't just in its wires, poor neglected Chekov. ;__;

Oh this is so heartbreaking, but ultimately so happy - the best kind. I think this is a very realistic portrait of someone with intimacy issues, as well as of Chekov's youth - that age when you think you know everything but you just so totally don't. His awakening was really beautiful and quite a relief, because I did feel secondarily bad for Sulu getting dumped after their first night together.

This was beautifully done.

Thanks so much -- this was a big part of the feeling I was hoping to get across. Learning you're wrong about something you've kind of based your life around is a shocking and painful thing for anyone, but it's always harder when you're that age when it's never happened before, and I'm sure it must be harder when you're a super-genius who's always been right about pretty much everything. ;)
