My Move to California, or, How Adventure Can Be Used As a Synonym for Nightmare: Part 2

May 22, 2012 15:27

If you thought my adventure in  Part 1 was bad enough, just you wait.  I haven't even gotten to my moving day yet.  But I will...

The rest of our final week in NY was relatively uneventful.  The movers loaded all our stuff up on the truck the next day and later that evening someone came to pick up our cars.  We spent the two days after that giving ( Read more... )

life changes, my crazy life, bumps in the road, that's life, don't mind me, one of those days, are we having fun yet?

Wow. You know, the way TSA separates kids from their parents is really evil. I never have experienced anything QUITE so dramatic as you, but once when we were flying to Germany with a 4YO and two kids under the age of 2, I was singled out for a random check. I had to walk away with the TSA people AND they wouldn't let my husband come and take the TWO kids I was carrying, and well. Let's just say I was not endeared to TSA!

I cannot imagine a delay like that with cats and a highly diabetic kid. I'm really, really, really glad you all survived (and that it's behind you now!!!!!) Hopefully, now that you're in California, you are feeling settled and you won't have to go through an ordeal like this ever again. Yikes.

I've never been all that fond of the TSA or flying before this, but now, it'll be a really long time before I'm ready to fly again.

Yeah Jay (my brother) and I had a similar experiance with Delta before, I refuse to buy tickets for them now. They screw people over, over book flights. Atleast for me and jay, they gave us 200 "Delta Dollars" for our trouble. You should have gotten a lot more. Jason looked like he was going to kill someone that night, you have to be pushy with those people to get what you deserve.

Man, now I really feel ripped off. Because we had to be pushy to get what we got.

we used our 400 delta dollars for a second later trip to Texas to visit Uncle Tim. After that we won't go anywhere near Delta

I don't blame you. I know in our case, they could have handled things a lot better. It's not like that was their first time dealing with a full groundstop for severe weather. You'd think by now they'd have better processes in place to ease their customers' pain.

All I can say is WOW... I don't envy that trip you had to take! I'm thinking more and more that I will travel by train more than airplane with all the crazyness that goes on! I'm glad you had such a great realtor that helped you!

I only travel by plane when I can't avoid it. Fortunately, except for the two times this year, I haven't needed to fly all that much. I hope it'll be a long time before I have to fly again. And I love our realtor out here. She's amazing. I just wish my house would sell so we can finally afford to buy one out here so she can get that commission she's worked so hard for.

OMG, you weren't kidding about this being synonymous with "nightmare." What a headache! I'm so sorry you had to pretty much go through hell on this trip. Just going through a fraction of this would make any sane person snap with stress!

I was glad my husband was with me. Every time I was ready to fly off the handle or have a complete breakdown, he was able to talk me down and keep me calmish. I'm also so glad it's just a memory now!

Oh gosh. I'm practically having a stress attack just READING this. So glad you made it out of that. & I thought our move was stressful just because we were falling asleep the whole drive and kept having to pull over and nap (which made it also seem the longest 900 miles imaginable) but at least we weren't at the mercy of the TSA and airlines...nightmare!!!!

I've never been that fond of flying before, but after that experience, it'll be a long time before I'm ready to brave it again.
