Miles apparated to his mother's house. He didn't announce himself. He just showed up because he wasn't going to give his mother the chance to prepare for his arrival. He was angry and he needed to put his mother in her place. When he arrived at the house he grew up in he found his mother in the parlor. She was tending to her flowers.
"Hello Miles," she said the minute she heard him enter the room.
"I'm assuming you know why I'm here."
"Yes, son. I've been expecting you."
"Why are you trying to ruin my life? I told you weeks ago that I wasn't marrying that Vaisey girl. I don't care what you want or who you think is right for me. You have no right to interfere in my life the way you have. You might have ruined my chances with Alicia, but I'm going to find a way to undo the damage you've done.
Mrs. Bletchley was silent. She didn't know where to start addressing what her son was saying. She firmly believed she knew what was best for her family. She really wanted to continue to improve her family's social standing. If Miles saw that she had his best interest at heart then maybe he would reconsider this rebellious streak he was currently experiencing. Yes, he was an adult but she wanted him to make a good choice when it came to his future partner. She knew Alicia was a pureblood, but her affiliations left much to be desired.
"Son, I love you. I'm doing what's best for you. Your older brother had no problem falling in love with the girl I picked for him a couple of years ago. I just want you to experience the same happiness," she explained finally.
"I'm not my brother. Why don't you just disown me now so we can be done with this?"
"I can't disown you. I love you. Your father wouldn't allow it regardless."
"Well then you're going to have to stand back and watch me ruin my life because I care about Alicia. She makes me happy and I'm going to pursue her with all I've got. If this means not making the family look good then so be it. I'm tired of trying to uphold the Bletchley name and make it something it's not."
Miles stormed out. He was going to take a chance. His mother was the bane of his existence right now, but he knew she wouldn't be for long. She would either disappear from his life or drop all these charades she was trying to implement to make their family appear more prestigious than they actually were.
