A wonderful wedding weekend

This past weekend Jonathan and I traveled a grand total of approximately 4,000 miles round trip to attend two weddings of some fantastic people. Of course, this was helped by the ( Read more... )

Oh yay, I was hoping for a recap of CJ and Elaine's wedding. We were sad that we couldn't go. Did you take pictures?

By the way - I meant to thank you on your LJ, but thank you so much for bringing a camera! I am still beating myself up for forgetting mine. The pics are awesome!

I might actually like weddings if there were more anti-weddings.

My sister-in-law linked me to this article from the post about anti-weddings. However, it ended up just as convoluted and chaotic as any other wedding. They were looking for a statement, not for honesty.

I'd like to see anti-industry weddings, not more Bridal Monthly weddings.

Get married, Barry. I'm dying to go to a wedding for a Gay.

I'll put you on the invite list for my future commitment ceremony, the prospect of which I might entertain if two key concessions are met:

(1) The "marriage" is not legally binding.

(2) My spouse is never referred to in the ceremony as my "life partner," as that will certainly cause me to keel over and puke into my cumberbund. (Or jeans - I've never been much for dressing up.)

That reminds me of a wedding my mother recently told me about. A couple down the street where I grew up was unable to get married until a few months ago due to the fact that they both happen to be women. They had a party earlier this summer during which they, to everyone's surprise, got married! Since they had been together for a few decades, they didn't really want to make a big deal of it, but apparently they made an announcement in the middle of the party, brought out someone who could marry them, and had a 5 minute ceremony right then and there. The party then continued on its merry way. My mother said it was really sweet. Totally not a big deal, no one got dressed up, really simple, no one but the couple even knew, but it like an affirmation full of warmth and love (exactly what a wedding should be, IMHO).
