UPDATE

Sep 04, 2006 13:41

Here is an update on my previous post (which is also in my journal)

The nurse practioner and the pharmacist I had talked to both had told me last to not use the cream Cutivate .05% (considered potent)
Cutivate's own website says this: ( cut for length )

As the patient, it's your choice. I have moderatly severe eczema and use a cortisteroid that's Class C as well. I discussed it with my doctor and she did some looking into and said that so little is absorbed through the skin that it's not much of a concern. Because the alternative to not using my cream is sleeplessness, rashes and constant and severe itching, I've decided to keep using it.

As for the other stuff, like sushi - cooked sushi is fine (minus the tuna). All the things we're told not to do, IMO, is only an extreme precautionary. My uncle and father-in-law are OB/GYNs and I discussed a number of things with them, like sushi (a year or more without sushi??!! Are you crazy??), and they said cooked is fine, stay away from the big seafish that get the most mercury, and I'll be fine.

My doc said all of it (raw and high mercury fish) was ok in moderation...I disagree just based on my instincts. The cooked I can handle :) but I can wait on the rest (I have an ultra sensitive stomach anyways lol).

I would NOT take a class C medication during pregnancy unless you really really have to... like this bump is causing you physical pain. We only have less than 5 months left... if the bump isn't getting rapidly worse or causing you discomfort, I can't imagine anything it could be that can't wait five more months, including BCC.

I agree. I would rather wait or have it removed to biopsy it anyways :)

I would definitely be concerned too. *hugs* I don't have any real advice since I don't really know much about the subject matter but can you talk to your doctor about maybe losing a less intense drug. Hope you get some more definitive assuring answers and soon.

I would definitely not use the Cutivate at this point, especially since the medication's own website mentions it being teratogenic. And I think you are absolutely right -- they should be able to remove the bump and figure out what to do from there, if anything. You are absolutely entitled to a second opinion, and you should seek one out at a separate facility from where you are currently going.

I'm sorry you are going through this.

i totally agree. can you go to another derm? get a 2nd opinion? and just get it removed? are you concerned this bump may be cancer?

i am so sorry you have to deal with this.

i would also think about possibly casually looking for a new ob/gyn. i felt my ob was like yours " a little too laid back "..we are moving so i'm going to find a new ob (even though technically i could stay with her)
its always good to keep your options open, you can make appointments with diff obs and bring a list of questions. thats what i'm doing.

i know this is so stressful.:(

With my caresource I only have two other doctors to pick from and I am not sure about getting another referral (I chose the one closest to me-not sure about the others). I am not sure if I am able to easily switch my ob....this insurance (while I am grateful for it) tends to make things difficult to switch around.
It is still very confusing to me-I am going to have to call them (the insurance) and ask lots of questions :) lol
