Riding, riding everywhere
Despite the snap cold front (it was less than 40 degrees by 10am) I braved a drive over to my parents. My hands were the only parts of my body that got cold. All went well except for missing one turn (not used to going the non-beltway route to their house), but that just ended up with me taking an even more scenic route. Practice makes...the heart beat faster
After a particularly grueling personal training session this morning (last one I paid for, so the trainer really did some innovative workouts to get me out of breath by the end), I hopped on my bike for some more practice time. The (semi) thrills!
Due to rain, trying to get a well fitting helmet, personal training session, and a vet appointment, I only managed to ride Monday afternoon and just now. I ended up buying a helmet from a different store (not a motorcycle dealership), and it fit much better than anything I had tried on yet. Gearing up
All my riding gear finally arrived so I drove over (in my car) to pick it up. I did not take my bike because A: It is a lot longer distance than what I have been riding, and B: I wasn't totally sure the helmet would fit correctly, and since I was returning the helmet I borrowed from the store, I would be sans helmet if it didn't. Steps to changing my life
Most of the hobbies I take up only last weeks or months at most. The two main exceptions have been horseback riding which lasted over 12 years, and playing poker which has lasted at least eight. In the past few months though I have been playing less and less, and in the past three weeks I have only played for 3 1/2 hours this past Friday night. ( Read more... ) -
Surviving the class
The past three days have taught me one very important lesson - riding a motorcycle is not nearly as easy as I thought. I rode briefly when I was 16 (older sister had motorcycles), and I guess the passage of time warped my view of either my riding skill or how much I really did ride at all. Embarking on Step 1
I still have not set in my mind whether I will buy a motorcycle or not, but I decided to at least take the motorcycle training course offered at the local community college, where you use their bikes and is a substitute for the road test for getting your license (the course gives you a certificate to bring to the MVA). For several years I have fantasized about hopping on a motorcycle and just taking off for parts unknown. It was partly influenced by a tv commercial (probably for a motorcycle) years ago where a motorcyclist was stopped for a school bus and one of the little kids saluted the rider, and the rider returned the salute. Still no updated photo
Back in late June I managed to spot a Google Maps car behind me when I was entering my community. I had just enough time to pull into my driveway, get out, and pose (facing the street) before it drove by.
