It really is fantastic having a computer in ones room with the internet, and I know it from experiance. **sighs with longing** I'd give you my old keyboard if there wasn't a chance of my possibly needing it...
I've just gotta wait... >D Then I'll get that laptop!
I share internet (on my piddly little laptop) with my dad's computer downstairs using a wireless connection. The laptop's got a network card, and the computer has a USB thingumajig.
We got them off eBay, and saved a shitload of money because the local shops sell wireless stuff pretty overpriced. Ha. :V
If ye olde compe won't take XP...hannahbassillJuly 20 2005, 11:15:59 UTC
Just update it to Win 98 so it is ok with networking. Just a thought.
Man... I'm just thinking HOW will there be room for this in your shoebox sized room? is there gonna be like a shelf for it at the end of your bed or something!? *puzzled*

That would cost quite a bit, wouldn't it? =/ Hmm.
There won't be room...XD Hehe, nah, it's a slightly bigger-seeming room when it's tidied, and it's all going to fit on my desk. The actual computer will go underneath, tucked away, and the monitor, keyboard and mouse will be on top. ^^
I recommend Belkin, I've been using them for the past year now and I've had no problems. I bought this wireless router a month ago and so far it's been fantastic. Not knowing what connection and stuff you're using I don't know that it's right for you, but Belkin = good. Also a bog-standard keyboard and wheel mouse will only cost you a mere couple of pounds from somewhere like Ebuyer. *checks* (In fact they've got mice for as little as 58p and keyboards from 82p)
Connecting your old PC however seems tricky. It could be easier and possibly even cheaper just to buy 2 PCs off your school and replace your home one. :/
Nice, that was the router I was looking at getting. XD What type of network card are you using? I've been looking online at some which aren't Belkin, but can easily go to PC World and get one from there - apparently they stock Belkin stuff. We have mice at home, and should be able to get a keyboard from the school. ^^ Thanks, that's useful though. I've never heard of Ebuyer before.
Hmm, I'm not sure it'd be worth it. It's just a shabby old computer that sits in the corner, not being used for much besides games occasionally, some work and other random things when this one's not in use. If it can't be connected to the 'net as it is, then I don't think much effort/money is going to be put into getting it connected, it was just an idea.
I'm not sure what Network Card I'm using. My housemate bought it from PC world for me to the specifications my Landlord gave us prior to moving in. *hunts around for the box/instructions* Belkin 802.11g Wireless Desktop Network Card F5D7000.
Ebuyer are one of the best, I've bought loads from them and their service and returns policy isn't too bad. I used to use Aria a lot, they're not bad, but Ebuyer, Dabs and Overclockers are usually cheaper. Overclockers is usually the best on price but I'm not too keen on their returns policy, to cut down on costs they ask you to send it directly to the manufacturer to be repaired rather than sending it back to them.
This site is pretty good at sniffing out the best bargains for you on a selection of respected computer sites. Just select a manufacturer and enter a keyword and it'll come up with a list of all the relevant products available at the 6 sites listed on the front page. I find it's pretty good for finding the best product on Dabs.com because Dabs quite often list the same item under
