Tomorrow Im and I are off for a few days with family in Canada. She's been soooo excited - she's asked 'is it Canada time now?' twice a day all week. That'll show us for hyping the trip so far ahead. All those cheesy film scenes where the kids run to the door when dad walks in from work...? It probably doesn't happen that often, but I have to say it's pretty great. Today is Ur's first birthday. I walked around with her this afternoon telling everyone I met that it was her birthday while she waved and pointed from the backpack. I surprised myself a bit, but I felt really proud of her. I know I'm supposed to and all, but it was a sudden, strong feeling.

Im seemed a little withdrawn today. Not that she didn't laugh and tumble around the bed with Ur, or get excited about making hamburger patties by herself. She even read us all a story this evening, inventing a simple narrative for a picture book. It was based on the text she'd heard us read, but seemed (linguistically) original - wow! So many wonderful and awful things to write about... and so little time. I'm going to bed earlier these days - better for me in some ways but I'm not posting very much :-(.
