I think it had more to do with people who like to kick others while they are down..and spit, and claw, and claim that they are kicking, spitting, and clawing in the name of justice and that the victim should just damn take it because it's for the greater good.
There's a point where snark turns into cruelty and spitefulness.
This however, is what I consider their finest moment:
Bob Parr: It's not a graduation. He's moving from the 4th grade to the 5th grade. Helen Parr: It's a ceremony. Bob Parr: It's psychotic! They keep creating new ways to celebrate mediocrity.
Tell ferrett to ignore the whingers, or port it all to dreamwidth where they cant get at it.
Ferrett's a good guy from what I've seen of him, and I know he's your friend. You're right to want to stick up for him. But frankly he deserved to be called out for that post, and he responded well to it in the beginning. As it went on, not so much. There's a point at which you need to close comments on something like that and let your apology stand - because I think he got dragged into a bad place by some other commenters on his blog.
The internet zeitgeist is a funny thing right now. The tone of discourse is changing in a way that I think will eventually be for the better, but it's very uncomfortable for everyone right now. But please don't frame this as a bunch of assholes wrecking Ferrett's life for no good reason - it's a much larger issue than that, and he happened to make the wrong post in the wrong place at the wrong time. It doesn't make him a bad person, and I think he'll come out of this stronger.
In this country we have the first amendment. That amendment does not contain language that excludes speech that may cross the mythical lines set by the politically correct, offend some recognized professional victim group or hurt someone's feelings.
She can frame it however she wants, but I did want to offer an alternate perspective. Kat is, of course, free to say whatever she wants on her journal. And I hope she knows I wouldn't dream of stifling her creativity or self-expression - just a way of expressing that I see the situation a little differently.
