I feel much the same way - it's like the obsession that nearly everyone has with tentacles. Herd mentality, I guess.

I have no dislike for Pirates, and I did like the Pirates of the Carribean movie (will get around to seeing it at some point), but the sheer amount of pirate themed events at the moment is pretty scary.

One of the clubs in Portsmouth did one recently, and I was invited to a pirate themed pub crawl recently, and there was a pirate themed party a little bit ago, and of course there's one planned within the next month...

Seems to be a complete lack of moderation really :o)

I hate themes at the best of time to be honest, but a little variety wouldn't go amiss.

Never did go to Whitby. Didn't appeal to me -- I like my daily showers and privacy, so I generally hate festivals full stop.
