I haven't been on for awhile. A number of factors, including 'flu and depression. Hopefully coming out of these soon. Perhaps I'll talk later about that whole can of worms ( Read more... )

Good to hear from you. Hope you're feeling better.

It shouldn't require much research to figure out just what the Occupy movement wants. They're defined by what they're protesting against, yes, and what they want is for what they're protesting to stop or at least be mitigated. As for exactly what that is, they're happy to tell anybody who asks. Or one could read articles like this which explain it all.

Dahlia Lithwick said, "Can't figure out their message? Just read their signs."

I think you will be wrong about Occupy; I think many coherent, specific things are coming directly out of it. Any movement that can transfer 650,000 accounts totalling something on the order of $70 billion (and is still going) cannot be so easily dismissed. That is not enough money or accounts to really hurt the big banks, but it is enough to help the credit unions and small banks, which in turn helps the communities.

The current trend toward protesting and preventing specific foreclosures, and re-opening empty homes for living and community space is even more exciting. And I don't think Monday's close-the-ports action will flop (though it could).

I'm glad you're feeling better.

It's good to see you posting here, John. The occupy movement has _finally_ raised the issue of income inequality to the level of national conversation. Hopefully, the movement will keep the pressure on until someone actually does something about it.
