The Flyers failed last night when they squandered a good performance by Bryz.  No sustained pressure in the offensive zone and defensive breakdowns in the 3rd killed them.

First, the Flyers rookies get snubbed for Rookie of the Year consideration and now Paul Holmgren is snubbed for GM of the Year.  I don't get it.  Read, Schenn and Couturier are all worthy of consideration and how could the NHL snub Homer for making the riskiest moves in the off-season that have paid off well beyond anyone's expectations?

Game 6 was the best game the Flyers have played in the playoffs thus far.  They eliminated the odds-on favorite to win it all by completely dominating the game from the opening faceoff.  Bryz was on point, the defense was tenacious and the scoring was consistent.  A 5-1 win over the faves was an excellent way to enter the next round.  Now we just ( Read more... )

Raffi Torres received a 25-game suspension for launching himself into Marian Hossa.  Brendan Shanahan said he handed out the punishment because Hossa was injured and Torres is a repeat offender.  That hit was no worse than what James Neal did to Sean Couturier but Sean was able to get up after the hit and Neal came away with no consequnces.  Neal ( Read more... )

The Flyers lost last night and it's ok.  They still lead the series 3-2 and they played the best game they'd played thus far.  Bryz was pretty good, except the one soft goal he gave up (that he should've had easily).  It's always that 'one soft goal' that is their Achilles.

Pat Summit officially announced that she has stepped down as the head coach of Tennessee's women's basketball team.  It is a sad thing.  In the early stages of Alzheimer's type dimentia, she felt it best to do so at this time.  Thankfully she will continue to act as a consultant (though she can't actively coach) which should make the transition ( Read more... )

Too much time on the PK.  Atrocious goaltending.  Poor defense.  The Flyers were downed 3-10 by the Pens last night.  I knew something bad was gonna happen as soon as the first puck was dropped.  Despite scoring first, the Flyers looked slow and complacent for the most part.  We need a better effort from the whole team on Friday.
