After a disasterous first half, Ilya Bryzgalov has wowed even the harshest critics lately.  4 shutouts in his last 5 games, no one suspected he would have been the best goalie in the NHL in the second half.

Goodbye, Harry Wendelstedt.  The former MLB umpire has passed away at the age of 73, possibly from complications of a long ago diagnosis of a brain tumor.  From 1966-1998 he called 5 World Series, 7 NLCS and 4 all-star games, he was known to have a generous strike zone, not because he sided with pitcher, but because he liked hitters to swing the ( Read more... )

Congrats to Kimmo Timmonen for collecting his 500th career point and to Jaromir Jagr for becoming the NHL's 8th all-time leading scorer in last night's game against the Islanders.  Two great careers for two great guys.

It is a sad day when we say goodbye to Monkees' frontman, Davy Jones.  The 66-year-old icon passed away of an apparent heart attack yesterday morning.  He will be sorely missed.  My condolences to his family and friends.

Poor Danica Patrick.  3 wrecks in a matter of a few days.  She kept getting wrecked out by others.  Do they not want her in NASCAR?  With the sport waning in popularity recently, she's brought the audience back and they should be grateful.

I can't keep silent about Ryan Braun anymore.  He has a lot of nerve proclaiming himself innocent yet that is not what happened.  His 50 game suspension was voided, not because he didn't have synthetic testosterone in his system, but because the 'collector' was irresponsible with the sample.  Tests A and B both showed elevated levels and synthetic ( Read more... )

Yesterday ended a week of fun.  12th End Sports Network UStreamed the 2012 US Curling National Championships live from Aston, PA.  Team Pottinger won the Women's title and Team McCormick took the Men's trophy (as I hoped).  12th End is in negotiations to webcast more curling in the future and it would be great for us here in the northeast US that ( Read more... )

Gary Carter, World Series Champ, 11-time All-Star and MLB Hall of Famer, has passed away at the age of 57.  Diagnosed last year with a malignant brain tumor and lesions, his last exam showed more lesions had formed and his condition had deteriorated(?) significantly.  He was an all-around good guy, a devoted family man who never smoked and drank ( Read more... )
