Fuck the bullshit! who cares what you're going to do with your theater degree 4 or 5 years from now? The point is you're pursuing a degree in a subject that interests you. you can figure the rest out as you go. You can take that a work for a theater (Little Theater of Va. Beach/Norfolk), you can teach it, you can work for a college. go to Cali. and definately take the time to keep writing. People in Suffolk might not have any idea but go to a more cultured area. Think of how many people in NYC are going to school for theater without a second thought.
I have a cousin who has a degree in some kind of dance thing and she's doing real estate. So even if you steer away from the theater thing it still holds weight that you have a degree. you're still going to come out of college educated- it's what you make of it. you have the right idea when you say "I can really be who I wanna be without having to explain it to anybody." focus on that attitude and have a good time.
