Name some literature that is good to read out loud or listen to.. no plays, no poems...

I have fond memories of a 5th grade teacher reading "Illusions" by Richard Bach to us. It is still one of my favorite books, and is not terribly long.

I'm partial to the Frog and Toad series, by Arnold Lobel. (I know, shocking.) :)

OMG, I love those. The ice cream monster one is my favorite! Here is hoping you weren't kidding, and I don't look more like a goober than usual...

I totally wasn't kidding. We own all of them. "Here, birds, here are cookies!" :)

I never really liked Beat literature until I heard it read out loud. (That goes for the novels as well as the poetry.)

It does help if you have musical accompaniment though, say by a penis.

Did I spell that right?

As for books on tape, the best I heard was Stephen King reading his own Dolores Claiborne. One of my fondest memories is Brandon reading the Tao Te Ching aloud to me after the death of my cousin.
