For the sake of superficial brevity, I've hidden the following ( behind the cut )

"Nice" is a pain in the ass to deal with. At least the instructors who got laid off for next year at UT were dealt with directly--the department had to make x percent cuts, and that means that x number of positions were eliminated. I find that's much easier to take than someone who's firing you and trying to make it sound like they're doing you a favor.

Although, she is doing you the favor of not having to deal with her!

Seriously, though, when are you going to break out the Anne Murray? :) In my freshman dormroom, I would play My Bloody Valentine when I wanted people to leave; I doubt that would work for a child of yours, though!

And that's the thing -- I'm not being "fired," I'm just not teaching there this quarter. Frankly, spring and summer are the sparsest quarters anyway and by fall they will definitely need more instructors again, especially when they start the new English programs -- they are adding a remedial English class (which they *desperately* need) and as of now, only my supervisor and I are qualified to teach English classes. So, come fall, I have little doubt that I'll be back. I'm just annoyed at the "I'm taking away your hours this quarter, but you're happy about that, right?" way of dealing with it. Ugh ( ... )

Lots of thoughts related to many points of this entry, but first on my mind right now (limited free time to write at the moment) is that I *cannot stand* working with people like this woman you are describing. Actually, my mother is like this in many respects, as well, so I'll add that I hated being raised under a roof where this was the style of communication. But she wasn't "nice"... just not direct. Blah ( ... )
