I had a major nerdgasm yesterday when I heard that Peter Jackson has acquired the film rights to a recent series of historical fantasy novels by a woman called Naomi Novik. I forgot to mention my thoughts on turning 30. It's not so bad. Pretty much like 29, only suddenly your hair is grey, you're thinking about making babies, and everyone under 35 is a damn punk kid at whom you feel like angrily shaking a broom.

Saturday worked out pretty well. It has been ages since I had an officially declared party, and I took my hostly duties seriously. This saw me stay up late on Friday cleaning the flat and get up early(ish) on Saturday for more of the same. The result was certainly not Fab Five-worthy, but at least people had plenty of empty floor to stand on. ( Read more... )

On Wednesday I went to the Wine Cellar with Faith and Amanda to check out some free jazz, featuring Amanda's friends, Chris. The music was somewhat more experimental than I am used to, but we had a good time nonetheless. The bartender thought he was cooler than us, but he was wrong.

Today Stephanie and I were sent on a one-day course in on-the-job training. It was fun and I got to go home early, so I'm not complaining, but it did seem a little on the pointless side, because our jobs don't really involve training anybody ( Read more... )

Last night Faith and I set out with the genuine intention (I almost typed 'in good faith' without a hint of intentional punning) of seeing Voom at the Dog's Bollix.
